Golden Gate DAC arrives.

How does it compare to Lampizator 211 mono locks?

If I had to choose one over the other, the Lampizator 211's would win the battle. The 211's have a fuller and more powerful bass presentation. Vocals have a slightly sweeter and more natural tone. The 211's bring the music more in the room towards you while the VAC is a little more laid back. The 211's get my toes tapping a little more but the VAC is definitely an amazing integrated that can be very satisfying. For my taste, both are great on the Strads, but I could see how some could be intimidated by the big tubes in the Lampizator. I have the XLR input option on the VAC and run both pieces direct from my Golden Gate. I'm very lucky to have such great choices.

Hello all Golden Gaters,

So my GG should be with me next week with any luck. I am getting myself organised on the tube front - ordered it with Kron PX-4s (I know a little bit of a left field choice), I have a new pair of eml 45 meshies, and will order the basic 101d's also. Now I need to get just kitted out with some recti options - what would your collective experience suggest? Are people using the regen amber with this on the whole - I read mixed reports? Where have people netted out on source - I am leaning towards an Aries with separate LPS for sheer convenience and also good sound?

I am also confused about one thing - it seems though the Lampi USB receiver chip derives power from Lampi not externally / source. Does that mean that the optimal USB cable is one not carrying the 5v power line?

You can try the Regen later. I have the Amber btw. Havent's used it yet. As for the recti, depends how much you want to pay out Heard Sylvanie 274b is a VFM, like the EML, but of course if you want to shelve out more the WE 422 and 274.

SFox likes the WE 422 but says the WE274 is best (he did a ranking on AS recently). I love the Phillips Metalbase GZ34 from the 1950s. $250 to $600 online.

He (SF) also thinks the Italian Fivre military spec with the double Mica is almost as good and far cheaper. Zaetrix and Haltron also rebranded these.

The 1944 5r4GY is supposed to be a WE 274B killer at $99 on Ebay.

Here is USB cable recommendation from Lukasz on FB:
LampizatOr I never heard before about the Swedish hand made ENTREQ cables. The USB is ultra radical with the plugs made from a piece of wood by a knife. But it did beat my own Silver Shadow USB cable (at 10x the price it should) and their interconnects are good also. The ENTREQ AC cable was very good icing on the cake, that's untill the Sablon was plugged. With the Sablon you just want to smile and recline the seat and dreram. But not nap.

The TotalDac USB cable is a fav of many people at €330.

I have the Aries with external PS and its competent (for the $). I also use the Totaldac USB cable and that made quite a difference. As for tubes, its personal like cooking. Just roll away. Ignore what people say.

You can't buy ALL tubes, so there is a need to listen to what people say to narrow the search!

Thanks. What dac are you using with the Aries? Also what lps did you buy and have you compared the Aries + lps to audiophile PC or Aurender

GearDaddy has a GG. The full Aries (deluxe) comes with its own LPSU for about $1,600 and dual femto clocks too. Its 16v 1 amp specced.

I will likely compare both in the future.

Lampi GG. I have the lps offered by Auralic. Nothing aftermarket. I have not done any disciplined comparisons to date. I am sure the Aurender or other higher $ transports could be better. I am just loathe to spend more $ as the rate of change is so high (what a surprise...its the world of computers).

Okay cool - thanks both. Keep me posted on your comparison, Norman. I think Aries might be more me as I can't be bothered faffing with computers when not at work!

Has anyone tried the the KR PX4 on a Big 7 or GG? Any thoughts or impressions would be appreciated. Getting my B7 soon and the factory is offering KR's PX4 instead of WE 101D replica's (which I had ordered). Apparently they ran into a faulty batch of 101D’s so keeping that option would delay delivery.

+1. I have been "faffing" with computers since the 80s and nothing irritates me more than the idea of doing the same for audio. Let the device be your slave and not vis versa....

The SBOOSTER linear supply takes the Aries up a big notch. I was quite surprised by this, and didn't much care for the Aries before this. No joke.

That's good to know Paul. I've heard this from a couple of others also, albeit with different psus, and am having a friend build me a very high spec LPS to feed both my Aries and also a Regen.
