Golden Gate DAC arrives.

David has searched the world over for the cheapest most natural sounding spool cable he could find and as I indicated earlier he makes his own cables from spool cable bought in Asia for $300 for 50 meters. It was indeed a revelation

When you control and know in depth all the variables of your system and spend a life time with great expertise and passion miracles can happen.

I have found that cables are less critical in analog systems than in digital ones, but it is just a feeling.

Well, I wouldn't call cutting roll wire and adding some spades making my own wires :)!

It has to do with coloration Francisco, the problem with many audiophile wires (aside from cost) is that they're designed to do sound a certain way and do things, I find good commercial grade wires more natural sounding. You still have to sift through them, they're not all the same either. Recently I've been very disappointed with many of the ONO OFC speaker wires I've tried, they're hyped in frequency extremes and lacked any definition in the mids.

Indeed Interesting observation --I wonder if it was/is

Belden 497Mk II --as favoured and used by Shindo

Western Electric WE16GA as favoured by Jim Smith and the Sibatone Gentleman

KAI out of China rumoured to be on Keith Aschenbrenner's fav list

If curiosity kills cats

Just an old roll of 10 gauge copper speaker cable I bought years ago from Japan, nothing exotic.

While I wait on my fancy audiophile grade SW to be finished, I am using Home Depot zipcord that was lovingly oxidized in my crawlspace for about 5 years. Beautiful tone density....;)

FYI, silver oxidizes a lot faster than copper ;).

Well put D!--exactly the answer I would've given to a nosey parker too;)_ha!

--I let it slip on another Forum discussing the controversial Shun Mook LP Clamp--that I use one--well the "cloners" went mental for the dimensions /etc/etc

in deference to the Designer I declined all requests.

Good listening and thank you again for your courtesy

BruceD

PS: I'm currently using some circa 1980's Shindo 9497 Spkr cabling myself--wonderous and pure:)

Good stuff never go out of fashion!

Yes Agree entirely--these new "super" over priced cable are 90% snow jobs in my book --tried a fair few over the last 50 or so years much to the dismay of my wallet:(

--I still go back to the old vintage cotton/cloth covered versions

I've found all cables with fat insulation of PVC, nylon or Teflon dulls the sound.

Good listening

Hmm, I wonder what Mr "Shun Mook" uses?

Ahhh, natural fibres...sort of air dielectric. The synthetic stuff is too symmertrical and you know nature abhors symmetry.

We are just now figuring out what some people in the 1950s already knew.

They use WE cables. The clamp is supposed to be awesome though I have no experience with the clamp, but as you know, plenty with the rest of their stuff.

A lot of people have tried copying dimensions of their various products using wood and have never succeeded.

Congrats Adam! That is one gorgeous DAC. Did you get any special options? Any initial thoughts on the sound?

Enjoy,
Ken

The only special option is a different volume control module, which comes with Apple TV remote. I just like it so much better than the plastic affair ?ukasz supplies with his DACs.

I also asked to have the PCM DAC removed - so it is a DSD only unit.

BTW - the 'ring' on the power button very closely matches the color of the display. On this image it looks much brighter, almost yellow. This is just a picture artefact.

Wow! Awesome photo... eye candy! Congrats!

Adam,

Thanks for the info. Nice idea to get the Apple TV remote. With the Trinity DAC, I guess you don't need PCM. I hope your balanced GG brings you much joy.
