A stereo amp can technically be converted into a Mono, however to do so would not make sense financially, it would require sending the amp back to Gryphon, incurring freight both ways, you need to replace a lot of the internals, for instance, a new back plate, a new single transformer (perhaps), the internals are most likely arranged differently as well. The cost of doing it would be high and would not make practical sense.
Given that every amp Gryphon have produced sound better as Mono's (as you would expect) then if you want the ultimate sound quality you buy the Solo's up front. Or buy a stereo and trade or sec that if you want to go Mono later. For me I have to consider the falling Aus dollar and think about long term use of these amps. Gryphon does not upgrade or produce new amps very often so they are likely at least a 5 year purchase. I am going to have a careful look at the budget and see if I can manage the Solo's now.

Yes, I have done it the other way (120V to 240V), and it must be done by Gryphon. It is not simply 'moving the taps' as it is in some amps...new parts, new computer-related setup...and in my case, they told me they set it slightly differently for UK 240V as opposed to EU.

No, I didn't bought from overseas, my Colosseum I bought here in Brazil with 120V. In Brazil there are two voltage standards, 120V and 220V and there is a possibility I buy in the near future a Colosseum of my friend here, but this second Colosseum is 220V.

Can kalliope dac / Jriver users let me know if they are successfully using the Gryphon ASIO driver (or KS driver) in JRiver?
I have installed the driver and can select it in JRiver but get the error message "Playback could not be started..."
I have checked the device settings, even fiddled with channel offset, and obviously the dac is capable of playing all files it is fed.Fiddled with different settings in windows playback devices too, no luck.
At first I thought this was due to using WS2012R2 and no compatible driver. I then experimented with a W7 laptop and same error for the asio driver in JRiver.
I did manage to get WS2012R2 playing the kalliope using "Kalliope USB Driver 1.0.56 [WASAPI]" which I think got installed using a "windows XP" driver downloaded from gryphon. This is okay but of course wont work in WS core mode.
Any thoughts, kalliope driver experiences, or workarounds greatly appreciated.

How many of you have heard the Kalliope in the meantime? And who has kept it after 6 years and has it still in his system? Or for what have you changed the Kalliope for?
I've had the Kalliope in my system for about 3 years, fed by an Antipodes K50, upstream of a Gryphon Pandora preamp and Antileon stereo amp. The sound is gorgeous, rich, dynamic and detailed. I'm sure there are other DAC's in its class, possibly better, but I have not compared and have no interest in switching.
I took possession of a Kalliope 10 days ago. To my ears and to my wife’s ears, it is absolutely fabulous. Smooth as silk without being gooey or sloppy at all; dynamic as hell; extremely fast and incredibly detailed without being etched, grainy, or even dry sounding; and seemingly effortless. It sounds just about perfect to my ears.
My Mirus Pro having faltered, I'm taking a blind chance on a pre-owned Kalliope from elsewhere in the EU and am pinning my hopes and expectations on your descriptors. I just demo'd Metronome Le Dac 2 - for me it bested home demo's of Tambaqui and MSB Reference. Superb timbre, holography, soundstage, emotional engagement. But have to scratch the Kalliope itch. What amp/spkrs do you use? Thanks.

I am in the middle a very major system upgrade. I have just very recently upgraded to Symphonic Line Kraft 300 W per channel (heavily biased towards class A) mono blocks. The speakers are Intuitive Design Summits.
Like you, I was quite concerned when I bought the Calliope and did so with the proviso that I could return it with a 10% restocking fee. It quickly became apparent after limited listening that this DAC wasn’t gonna be going anywhere. To my ears it sounds even better when playing red book CDs, if the upsampler is turned on. I very strongly doubt that you will be disappointed, but of course, I can’t guarantee what your experience will be. Either way it would be nice to know. I hope that I haven’t lead you astray.

Very nice. Thanks for the reply. Most of all I hope it doesn't have any glare! I've fought glare my whole digital hifi life. I'll feedback if I get it - the overseas dealer is very slow to respond and I'm wondering whether it really exists. If there's anyone out there in Europe inclined to sell theirs on the way up to Ethos or other, please message me.
