In my defense, I also see an octopus.

When you were a small boy did you take your toys apart to see how they worked? No, you didn't, and that's why you cannot reverse engineer things now. Luckily, we need guys like you, so we can sell you nice audio stuff. Otherwise, you guys would just make your own. We can't have that now can we? :D

The sad thing is that my Ph. D. degree was in an area of mathematics that was given birth from geometry. These puzzles are particularly cruel to me.

Mike, I don't think this visual sort of thing is something you learn. It seems to be more of a knack to me. Me? I don't get mathematics at all. I have ideas, and then I submit them to a couple guys who crunch the numbers for me, so I'm not working completely in the dark. So far, it has worked out with a good success rate. You math guys have always amazed me...maybe not in box recognition, however. ;)

That's good to know. For some reason, I'm good at identifying tunes after just a few bars of music. My strength is not in the visual. Sadly, I have become a number cruncher. I sold out to the man!

16

Almost missed the big green in the center

16 now; printed it out and took a marker to it. Moral: Never be the first to post, and don't try to solve puzzles in 10 seconds whilst on lunch break!

LOL! That's too funny!

I think it's pretty much confirmed that it's in fact 16 squares. Interesting that the correct answer wasn't a part of the multiple-choice

My count was 16. As I have now seen there are some answers on the wrongly suggested values, I hope that this is was not a disguised poll on the power of suggestion and the value of blind tests. :)
