How to Assemble a High-End Audio System

Careful Ked, stones in a glasshouse ! ;)

not really I have nukes in my bunker. That said, I don’t think you got it. Method to finding our own subjective preference is the toughest bit, which can become pretty controversial.

As long as the preference is natural sound it's not controversial.

Ron, is next episode about how one discovers their preference for natural sound?

And if one does not have time to discover preferences, what's the best way? watching videos?

Why assemble your own system when you can invite yourself to hear other people's systems and film them to watch later on YouTube? Besides, we all know natural sound can only be heard in the concert hall.

Reading the thread?? I am sure someone has done a thread on “natural sound” that will guide us all…however, it could take longer to read and understand that then it took Ron to get a room!

Ron will likely not be making a two minute video about natural sound. It would be far too contentious.

Please enjoy the next installment of How to Assemble a High-End Audio System. This is not an instructional video, but rather a brief discussion about, and tour of, my record/tape storage cabinet.

Wow Ron!!
Looks just awesome. Fantastic rooms you have for the hole stereo and record setup. Great view out over LA… I am very happy for you.

Very best regards

One man's "high - end" is another man's entry level. High - end is a state of satisfaction...

Ron, you’re going to get a lot of exercise during long listening sessions. Why did you put your media storage on a different floor? Love your listening room.

I think it’s brilliant?! Lots of staircase training between the record changes. A very good thing when you have no time to go the gym, due to 24/7 of hifi sessions. Ron’s legs is going to look like Tom Platz legs soon :p !!

I don't consider one short flight of stairs every 15 or 20 or 30 minutes to be a lot of exercise.

Mainly because that is where the available space is. I actually love how the listening "room" is actually a "wing" of the house, encompassing three separate areas: listening room + adjacent equipment room + separate record/tape storage and cleaning area. I think being able to spread locationally the functions out like that is kind of luxurious.

Great topic Ron, I guess there is no one true to this.
for me the holly grail is to try walking between emotional and details, never emphasis one over the other.

How do you draw that line?

I am imagining that you heard one component that was very detailed, and another component that was emotionally-engaging, but you did not buy either of those. You found a component that somehow was in the middle? Is that how your decision process works?
