Same cycle yes....Not seeing anything like this here, but then we are much more inland. I suppose our Maritime Provinces will bare the brunt of this. Winds here are strong (40MPH and expected to go higher with severe gusts), but nothing that to me seems like a violent weather system (thankfully). Rain is soso....they reduced precipitation forecasts by 50%. However, this is Mother Nature at work so who knows what will happen come the end of it.
We just lost power. Have a small emergency gennie for surge pumps, but the rain water has not really been much of an issue (yet). Our local power company is actually pretty good, but given the number of people affected here, as well as elsewhere, I'm not too optimistic.
I'm not gonna be on line too much for a while, to keep my strength up.

From Daily News web site, 4 feet of seawater in East River subway tunnels. Battery Tunnel flooded. Storm surge at 14 feet in downtown Manhattan. Daily News building lobby has 3 feet of water in it, and it's up a short flight of stairs from the sidewalk. Most of Manhattan south of 14th St. without power.
FDR at 53 Sutton Place.
Power out.
Flooding at Water Street, between Catherine and Market Street,
I, too, am in Manhattan and not too far from Myles. Nothing doing so far, a bit of wind and, although the streets are wet, I have not seen much rain. Hoping nothing changes.

We are OK, some tree damage, power likely to be out for a while; it's the folks on the water who really got hammered, boats in street, docks ripped up, a few deaths in the county and westchester from falling trees, etc but this storm seemed to be about the wind and the water surge; while it rained heavily, we didn't get the kind of water that we normally see during hurricanes up here.
We are going out to see what's what, and help.
I consider us lucky.
Good to read you and the family are ok. Hopefully everyone else is as well.
Whatever we were supposed to get never materialized, thankfully. Not much rain at all, but the winds are still fairly strong and gusting. There were some power outages reported, but nothing of any consequence. We got off easy!
