IMPORTANT WARNING ALERT! Audigon, my membership name has been hacked, check yours

What's shocking is Audiogon's total lack of concern for their customers. They're as robotic as their website.

I personally had my own run in on one of their Dutch Auction sales.

The only way they'll change is by getting continued bad press.

-----It's pretty much like that most of the places from all over the world; did you expect people truly care?
...I mean the Internet and even real life is bad. That's why they said love your family first and take care of your wife and children. :b ...And cherish the few true good friends you have.

I don't know about you, but since I live in the U.S., I'm not buying something from Bulgaria! I wouldn't buy a picture of Hansen speakers from Bulgaria.

Hey, I think Bulgarians were at one point considered the best assassins on the Continent. Of course, they could have lost that edge and now be merely resting on their laurels. :)
I actually dig some of the old Eastern bloc stuff, the reviews on 6 moons are often translated from Polish and they have a range of equipment we never see.
You are just being a provincial, Mep. :)

Probably not. It just seems that lots of nefarious activities eminate from Eastern Bloc countries.

Thanks for the update Lyubo. Nowadays, anything that says check/MO is suspect.

Welcome also to WBF!

So did anyone stop by at the Audiogon booth at RMAF?

Every day there's a new listing that is suspended.

I did and I complained about a few things including the fraud. They of course are very aware of it but don't know what to do about it. They asked for suggestions.

Here's how I imagine the booth: empty, except for a flickering hologram of some desirable piece of equipment; a slot for a credit card, when you swipe the card, the equipment image disappears and the booth goes dark. There is a 'help' button on the desk, but if you look under it, the wires are not connected to anything.

LOL. When I first saw the booth, my reaction was "Oh, look - booth babe!". Then I spoke to her, got her business card and realized she actually held a real position in the company (forget her title atm).

Maybe they should consult with some internet security fraud people! This is not a problem unique to Audiogon as I was recently told by someone in the business.

one would have to be naive to think it unique to Audiogon but what I find disturbing is that the whole mess started only after the site changed ownership and new software written. Even more disturbing is that they know it exists but don't know how to fix it. Give me a break :(

Agreed. Cyber-security is hardly an obscure field at this point. I've worked with a number of consultants over the years, there are top people available- this is not a 'make it up as you go' issue and it poses significant business and legal risks.

Exactly. I'm sure that it is expensive to get good people but they appear to be making a large enough profit to afford it.

---Yes, like Steve just said above; Audiogon used to be a good place overall for most people, but since the management changed hands, no more now.
And that is the exact dilemma; people want it back the way it used to be!

Our Audio hobby (Video too) is a great passion, an emotional one too, and also a great opportunity for scammers.
Now we have to be not only free emotionally, but also free intelligently; if you know what I mean.
...With controlled emotions and awareness.

I am not a computer or security expert, but their site has some strange behavior - if you sign-in from the front page you enter a secure https page. But if you want to see some data in the blue book you are asked to enter a non secure page and your password will be sent non-encrypted. For me it does not seem a good practice. I think that the merging of the new sections and old parts of the site have some serious security leaks - a common problem when adding functions to old code.

Yes, but their work is not cheap. Most of the cyber-security problems are caused by management decisions, as directions want to save money, cutting on computer security expenses.
