Yes, but their work is not cheap. Most of the cyber-security problems are caused by management decisions, as directions want to save money, cutting on computer security expenses.
True, Micro. Some of the consulting firms are tres pricey. When we did the DVD hack case back in 2000, the defense was supported by a large community of volunteer hackers. These guys knew as much, if not more, than some of the University gurus. So, hire an (ex-) hacker! I think the federal government in the States has done just that to improve its own security.
I am not a computer or security expert, but their site has some strange behavior - if you sign-in from the front page you enter a secure https page. But if you want to see some data in the blue book you are asked to enter a non secure page and your password will be sent non-encrypted. For me it does not seem a good practice. I think that the merging of the new sections and old parts of the site have some serious security leaks - a common problem when adding functions to old code.
I did and I complained about a few things including the fraud. They of course are very aware of it but don't know what to do about it. They asked for suggestions.
A site that sells millions of dollars of equipment online globally and this is their response, very concerning. I would think a simple deterent would be to implement a policy that any new listing that has an agreed sale, any funds that are associated must go into a secure escrow service holding funds until both parties are satisfied with the transaction. Even if membership is hacked and fake listings are posted there is no chance that the hacker will recieve any monies, which would deter hacking in the first place.

There is nothing with my recent experiences with Audiogon or what I have heard from others to indicate that Audiogon gives a rip. They are, for the most part, a monopoly, and act like it. To move them off the mountain top would require a huge software investment from someone and then more $ to get the word out. And that's not happening. Short of them doing something illegal and getting their hand spanked, they have zero motivation to do anything to make the user experience any more positive.
If you want a realistic opportunity to sell or buy good used audio equipment, they are the only real option (and they know it)!

As long as we continue to think so they have the upper hand... For them to change and for things to get better we must force them to maybe take our business elsewhere, forcefully.. Something we haven't done and nor have the would-be competitors come to the forefront... They could post more often in this very, well read thread, they don't which is to me extremely strange ... You may be right after all
---There is a team of excellent people working right now to establish a new audio/video store (website) where people from all over the world can buy and sell (new and used).
I let you when I find out more on their launch date. :b
But Audiogon is just about to go down for real good in history. ...And with it all the bad apples; administration, and scammers, and all that very bad jazz.
Within moments of furnishing my username and password, I recognized the breach and attempted to clear the fields prior to the phish execution.
Immediately, I logged-on...changed my credentials and communicated the goings-on with A'goN. A'goN replied swiftly via e-mail, opined my account was likely secure due to the alacrity with which I acted, and indicated they would monitor my account.

This is not a fake ad - I know the seller. Currently they are in process of building the LARGEST Hi-Fi showroom in Europe - 1300 sq.m., 10 demo rooms. You can check here:

A link conveys you to a page which mimics the A'goN webpage with excruciating detail. What alerted me was detecting the properties of the "app.audiogon.com" and observing unusual characters, e.g., the numeral 0 rather than the letter o in the url.
Hope this helps.

Yes, It's always a good idea to look at the url any time there is even a hint of suspicion. If you have any doubts open up another window and surf to the site yourself. You can usually figure out that type of scam by comparing the url's.
I faced the same problem yesterday. Somebody tried to switch my ID to sell Wilson Sasha but I managed to delete it after I was informed by a member. Now another possibly fake is probably trying to sell the same Wilson Sasha but using modified ID ie audioblazer1 instead of my actual ID , audioblazer
