IMPORTANT WARNING ALERT! Audigon, my membership name has been hacked, check yours

I'm no longer going to send them emails as it clearly demonstrats such goes on death ears

That must be a Freudian slip :)

seems to be gone now

It seems like AG's process is to accept anyone's listing $$, then sometime after the listing appears see if they are scammers.

So get this I went to the TAVES show in Toronto today and ran into mracoustat and what he told me was that Audigon wanted money from him in relation to one of the bogus adds using his membership name.

Just unbelievable and for the same wilson speakers also.

You have got to be kidding. Please allow me some time to pick my jaw up off the floor. I believe I just shattered it.

I think this is the perfect definition of the yiddish word chutzpah!

The problem is that the guy I traded with had 100% feedback from 30 sales. But it doen not help when the account is hacked. I totaly agree with paying with Paypal but here it was only bank transfere. I have done that may times before when the feedback was good with no problems. But this time it failed:)

I am truly sorry to hear of your misfortune. I tried to sell my Wadia here on WBF, and got zero response. Audiogon is more risky, but it has more players in the audio game, in a manner of speaking.

I am a new member here, so I thought I would share my latest experience with Audiogon.
I sold a Carver Sunfire amp on Audiogon in August. The buyer, either by neglect or fraudulent intent, sent me an email (he had my personal phone number before the sale) 25 DAYS after he received the unit to advise me that the unit was "damaged" and he wanted a full refund. His email consisted of two sentences asking me if I had ever opened the unit. I replied that I had never opened the unit and that it was working just fine prior to shipping. He then filed a dispute with PayPal within minutes of my email response and escalated it to a claim within 90 minutes (in the middle of the night). I responded to PayPal with a copy of the UPS shipping receipt showing that he had not filed his claim until after he had the merchandise in his possession for over 3 weeks. I am confident that PayPal will decide in my favor but it will take another month to find out. Here's where Audiogon comes in... Last week I receive an email from Audiogon that since I had "not responded" to the previous notice of the buyer's dispute notice, that Audiogon would most likely decide in the favor of the buyer. What's odd is that I NEVER RECEIVED THE PREVIOUS DISPUTE NOTICE FROM AUDIOGON and the second email was sent only 4 DAYS after the initial supposed dispute was filed with Audiogon. I immediately emailed copies of the PayPal documentation to Audiogon but their automated response form rejected my message since I was responding too late to the dispute. My attempts to send the documentation to other Audiogon emails came back with the automated response that responses regarding disputes will only be handled through the automated online dispute form. So, basically, I was locked out. After no luck finding a phone number for Audiogon (numerous "whois" domain searches turned up two levels of web hosts who claimed to have no control of the site), I combed the internet and came up with another Audiogon email address I found listed on the Better Business Bureau search (btw, Audiogon has NO BBB affiliation or rating but does have some registered complaints there). I also found the same email, carm.huntress@audiogon.com, on some other sites (Carm Huntress is listed as the "CTO" for Audiogon on various sites). I then forwarded the same PayPal dispute documentation to this email, but have never received any responses.

Today, I receive an email from Audiogon:
"RESOLUTION AS RECORDED IN BOTH ACCOUNTS:
== Audiogon has not received a response from Uberchurl, in regards to the Dispute initiated by Colinzim. Due to the lack of response, we must assume that all statements made by the initiating party are accurate and complete. The lack of response shows further disregard for the rules and ettiquette of the Audiogon community, as such, Uberchurl has been suspended from further use of Audiogon. It is advised for Colinzim to contact his payment provider to attempt payment reversal. Audiogon will assist in anyway possible if legal pursuit is taken."

Personally, I could care less about Audiogon; they cannot affect my relationship with PayPal nor can they affect PayPal's decision. I am only sharing my personal experience with Audiogon in hopes of steering people away from this less than scrupulous site. By the way, I personally know several people who have had even worse experiences with Audiogon.

wow. What a first post here. Welcome to WBF

My only concern about your feeling OK about PayPal's decision in your favor, from what I've heard they typically favor the buyer with the seller having little recourse

What's shocking is Audiogon's total lack of concern for their customers. They're as robotic as their website.

I personally had my own run in on one of their Dutch Auction sales.

The only way they'll change is by getting continued bad press.

I had posted a DOJ webpage above in this thread with some general info. You may want to file a complaint with the FTC.

Curious and to me a turn-off . It seems NO ONE at a'gon has deigned one single reply to this thread ...

Frantz- I can understand why they wouldn't want to engage on the issue in a public forum and doubt they permit threads on their own forum about it. I think they have work to do; they are obviously aware of the issue. When you go on the site now there are new warnings about protecting yourself from fraud, etc. It is unfortunate for many reasons, not the least of which is the victims. But, it also hurts the community at large, when equipment can't get 'recycled' in an effective way. And although the chat function still has a lot of the old posters, I'm not sure that as many of us will spend time there, given what's been going on. I got alot of help there from posters back in the day, before this site existed, on stuff relating to electrical issues, grounding, etc. I hope they get their act together, if not for their own sake, than to preserve a pretty necessary function in the community for buying and selling gear.
