IMPORTANT WARNING ALERT! Audigon, my membership name has been hacked, check yours

@ Stianmhell,

They are in the US of A , they will not take this seriously until you have an Attorney contact them , do not take this sitting down , have an attorney contact them , you can prove negligence on their part , best to get with others who have also been scammed , AG has the information you seek and I'm sure they collected fees from these transactions ....

Regards ,

They should be drawn and quartered for taking fraudulent fees from the person scammed and then saying that they won't return the money because the buyer didn't do due diligence is an absolute travesty. The site should be closed down as a cesspool of crime and corruption.

The fake listings now are deleted in less than 24 hours, hopefully . Myself for 12K out of pocket, I would hunt this guy down.

The seller pays all the fees. Audiogon may be getting the initial fee for the adds but I doubt they are getting the 2% fee after the sale. If they are getting the initial fee it was likely from a fraudulent CC. Other wise it would be to easy to track the hacker down.

well if their fees come from fraudulent CC's you can bet that the fraud department of that credit card bank will be reversing those deposits from the Audiogon treasury

That's what I'm thinking. I'm sure this is a huge headache for Agon. They need to solve this problem soon or they will likely go out of business.

As far as I understand Paypal will not protect you on international sales. It has to be within the US. If you use a credit card through Paypal maybe the CC company will still protect you?

That is reason enough for me to avoid buying used merchandise from other countries. I like to error on the side of caution especially with high dollar items. It's just not worth it.

I do not believe that is correct. Paypal is owned by eBay and international transactions are part of their standard business practice.

From your mouth to God's ears :)

You could be right. Maybe things have changed since I last checked but I believe that is only correct if you use Ebay.

Taking the fake listings down every day is merely a bandaid over the wound rather than a true fix.

I would never do business at that site again

I agree. Stay away until they get their $ together. Buy from members you have dealt with in the past with tele # and E-mail to confirm.

Hi, I asked AG how he payd for the ad, and they just said by stolen credit card. I have tried to get in touch with the other guy that was scammed, but there seems to be some problems getting my messages trough AG. I will try again. I won`t give up!!

I totaly agree, They should at least help me to get this guy. But it seems like their part is done already! It should really not be a big issue to sort out people that are selling stuff in different locations than the account is registred.
And it seems like the text is almost identical on each ad.

I have great success using Audiogon. I have some simple rules I follow. I never buy from low feedback members. I only use paypal and then wait untill funds clear. But, I have seen a clear rise in 0 feedback non USA ads.

it use to be that with anyone i did business with on Audiogon i could somehow verify who they were thru audio friends i know all around (and they could verify who i was too). we would have common friends or some sort of connection. communication flowed much easier.

whether it's just that scammers have discovered that high end audio is a more trusting environment than other auction sites, or that more restricted communications make things tougher to verify, or both, but things have changed.

Like what AudioMart used to do in the prehistoric era. A friend had to vouch for you to be on the mailings.

Well that was my question before. Is this guy scamming Agon too with a fake cc# or account or are they getting paid?

But the problem is that they're not just making up new accounts but hijacking people's accounts with lots of feedback too (like MrAccoustat or Dev). So what one once thought was safe is no longer.

I had great success selling there as well.

For my money, why the hell should I support a site which does absolutely nothing to protect the buyer. It is nothing more than a broken mess and as they say "caveat emptor"

Thanks, I will check it out. I am located in Norway.
I have already contacted the Norwegian police, so I hope they can contact the german police and check out all the bank accounts the hacker used.

You may want the Norwegian authorities to contact the FBI since the problem appears to be endemic and ultimately, they may need Audiogon's cooperation. If the federal authorities here have a complaint on file, that may make the whole thing easier.

The problem is that the guy I traded with had 100% feedback from 30 sales. But it doen not help when the account is hacked. I totaly agree with paying with Paypal but here it was only bank transfere. I have done that may times before when the feedback was good with no problems. But this time it failed:)

this year (mostly thru June), to help pay for my new speakers and new amps, i've sold 10+ items on Audiogon for around $50k.

it's been a pain with the restrictions, although it likely helps that my moniker is my real name and i've been around for awhile in terms of buyer comfort. i have not personally had any problems.

knock on wood.;)
