Job 225

The power measurements taken in the review were most likely with one channel driven. The expected power with both channels driven would be much less. If you ran them as mono blocks and paralleled the secondaries and used just one channel of each amp then you would get slightly better measurements than the ones shown. But you will never get that much power into low impedances with a small power transformer. None the less, this amp has enough power for most uses. Not for rocking out with magneplanars. Those power hungry speakers probably require 400-800 watts into 4 ohms to get them above 100db.

The best way to make more power is to go balanced bridged. I will be testing it in this mode sometime in the next week. If stable, then using two of them could be super killer as balanced almost always sounds better than single ended and bridging usually sounds better than standard balanced....and of course mono-ing would improve the sound slightly too. You would have about 250 watts into all loads except under 4 ohms. I should have all mods tested in about 2-3 weeks.

Ric, any update on these in balanced bridged mode?

The old Goldmund amps based on this circuit had no problems driving my Maggies. And Maggies rocking out? Not in their vocabulary.

Re: JOB 225 2-channel Power Amplifier ... update ...

It seems the amps are back in stock (from another forum):

Received email from Job 4:36 this morning, ordered a Job 225 at 5:01! Can't wait!

No Tom,

Not yet. I live closeby and will likely get one next year when I manage the WAF. LoL

I have been to the plant though and seen them being assembled and I know the concept is great, as I know a member of the original design team...

Is this a joke? If not. it ought to be. The guy who wrote this is someone you wouldn't want to come within ten zip codes of your gear.
It's not a joke, the company is called Electronic Visionary Systems (EVS) and run by Ric Schultz. You can see his other products, services, and advice (including health remedies!) on his home page. He mostly provides mods and some tweak products with the requisite amazing claims of their radical sonic improvements. I have no personal experience with him or his products, so of course YMMV.

New opinions on Job 225?
Has onyone seen any measurements of this amp?
Maybe I should put these questions before ordering one yesterday :D

hmm... I just received Job 225.
Initial impressions: not impressed at all. It runs for half an hour and I can't find any advantages over my HK990 (yes, Harman/Kardon HK990!). More important, I find the HK990 to have better focus. The speakers are PSB Synchrony One, the source - Weiss DAC202U
