Job 225

I received an email from Antonio at Goldmund exactly like the one listed in an earlier post. I took my 225 to FedEx today but the guy at FedEx said the account number that Antonio gave me was for international shipments only. I called Bob at Rhapsody and he was very polite and accommodating. He said he will contact Antonio and get the account number I need.

SoundArgument: I'm relieved for you and quite happy that the issue is resolved. I know this must have been a headache for you. I was getting concerned.

I'm very much looking forward to getting my repaired 225 back and able to enjoy this amplifier that everyone is so pleased with.

SoundArgument,

If you live in Massachusetts, why did Goldmund have you send it to Switzerland instead of NY?

Ah, I see.

Look, the good news is that someone who had the hum problem has had the problem corrected my Goldmund/JOB and now they have a hum free amp that they are happy with. That tells me and you that the problem has a solution which is great news for those that took the plunge and have the hum problem.

Question for soundArgument:

Did they send you a new amp? Or, is it the same serial number?

Best,
B

Has anyone tried the Sweetcord with their amp?

I did. I am using it right now on my D'Agostino amp and I am really liking what I hear. I can not give you a definitive answer on what it's doing different but the music seem fuller with a bigger, wider and more layered sound stage. I was thinking of ordering another cord to use on preamp.

Sounds like something wasn't installed correctly or a part was missing on a run of amps.
Did they tell you what they did to make it right?

I spoke with Mr. Visintainer yesterday about sending the amp and asked what is involved in fixing the amp. He told me it's a matter of unsoldering the ground cable and replacing it with another, then solders that to a different point in the amp.

I sent my amp today and he should receive it tomorrow. I'm looking forward to hearing what all the buzz is about (oops, maybe wrong choice of words).

You can download this PDF to get a feel for what this Job4 circuit is capable of in Goldmund-monoblock form.

I have been using Job-based Goldmund and Stellavox (the "pro" side of Goldmund) amps for several years and own six mono channels.

Incidentally, I'm willing to sell 4 of them, as I no longer need them for multi-channel. They are hard to find and have been utterly reliable (and dead quiet). PM me if interested.

Cheers,

Bob

Received the amp back from Mr. Visintainer in NY. Hum is gone.

Btw, anyone using the 225 with a passive preamp?

I'm glad to know there is a fix for this problem and hopefully Goldmund will cut it into production.

I'm in the market for EITHER one of the old Job preamps OR a Stellavox PR2. Both the old Job preamp and the PR2 are passive units.

I'm very happy with the 225's sound.

Thanks - I just bought one..... trying to resist the temptation to buy another, as I would REALLY like to use two of them. The PDF above is helpful and implies potential.

Although it may have been in jest, what do y'all think about using one-channel alone in each of two units; I mean I've heard of vertical and horizontal biamping but could we get more than the rated power per channel if used in this manner, or is it "unused?" I'm afraid I don't know enough about the amplifier....

That is a good question. I have used a pair of Phase Linear 400 Series 2 amps in the way that you suggested. I inserted shorting plugs in one channel of each amp and just used one channel from each amp. You don't gain anymore power, but the entire power supply is now just feeding one channel instead of two which I think should certainly have it's advantages.
