And now a quad of GEC KT88s. These must not be NOS since they sound great!

These GEC KT88s sound amazing. This is the best my Horizon has sounded. So musical. Music is so alive; quiet passages are tender.

What are the recti and the outputs. I don't recognize them. Meltz?

Outputs are Tung Sol 6SN7 black glass; round plates. Rectifier is an Acme 274B. Using it while the Horizon breaks in and then I will try the Tak 274B.

The KR KT 88 was Lukasz favorite . I agree with your comments about being very musical. I even bought a back up set for future use just incase

Wisnon told me the GEC tube to get was GEC KT66
Let me just post this: "The original GEC KT88 shares nearly the same nimbus as the legendary Western Electric 300b – till today no new tube construction can replace the original design"...

I did not like the KR KT88. The GECs are in a whole different sound class to me.

Was wondering about the NOS classics. Now we need someone to try some of the other classics: el34 xf2, el34 Dutch metal collar, tnut sol 6550, tungsol 5881, genelex kt66, genelex kt78 and haha if someone hoarding the western electric 350 (which I hope would work).

Indeed I have 3 quads of kt88 gold lions nos. Can't wait to try them. Will you say Golum that gold lions are specially selected gecs? Or just fancy packaged gecs?

I also have a quad set of Genalex Gold Lion KT88 as well as Gold Lion KT77 (which was Lukasz second favorite)

I did not like the Gold Lion KT88s in my amp. Granted, this is a different application.

All of these tubes I have are dust collectors as I doubt I will ever change my tube selection. Having said that I remain interested in the WE 274B if they go back into production but I have sufficient back up sets of my desired tubes

I believe we tried this at the Florida Audio Show and it had great tonality, but seemed a bit lethargic leading us to return to the KR KT-88s we also had on hand.
