LampizatOr Horizon - Tube Rolling Paradise

Wrong perception ;) . It's like having a Ferrari and Fiat 500 Abarth at the same time and trying to see up to which comparative level with Ferrari you can bring Fiat with all the tweaks in the pocket - just for the sake of fun...

KT-170's, Tak 274B, Tung Sol VT-231 6SN7GT. I will interchange the Triodes to the Sylvania VT-231 6SN7GT, nice little difference. But as many of you have mentioned, this is all system dependent.

Not just system dependent. Tubes woks very different in different configuration. For example my WE422 sounds harsh with Bendix 6384 and Visseaux ecc31. With a cheap Brimar they sound much better. But with Mullards the WE is the best recti in my system.

Well said: And much more informative than my interjection...

Any suggestions for good ways to store large tube collection? My closets are getting full! I’m wondering if there’s a more elegant snd compact way to store tubes.

I did…did not stay in the game…
Three Western Electric 274Bs with engraved bases came up for auction on eBay recently. They sold for between $1200 and $1500. Pricey rectifier for those with deep pockets. But the even rarer 422A might be better. It made the top of this ranking.

I did not find the 422A to be anything special in my Horizon.

I have a friend in London willing to sell his WE 274b engraved. If anyone interested PM, I will connect you

There are at least 2 versions of the 422A. The earlier version has light grey plate, the later one has dark grey plate. The first one sounds significant better than the second one. Till now nothing come close to the 422A in my system. I’ve tried at least 15-20 recti sofar. But it is very system and tube combination dependent.
