LampizatOr Horizon - Tube Rolling Paradise

Hmmm, no mention yet of rs1003 / srs-551?
Just curious. If this is the "big reveal", how did anyone assess them if there are no adapters available to play them?
Then again, some folks seem to find it easy to prefer one tube to another even though they haven't heard both in their system

The good news is that the RS1003 at least, was made by Siemens and TFKN and availability seems plentiful at a low cost (about $100 @). Have fun with them if you can crack the adapter dilemma.

There’s no point to talk about it. There is no adapter for the SRS on the market. I’ve asked the guy on ebay who makes all the adapters. He said he can’t make it. There are no new production parts to built it. The only way is to make one is to find old adapters and use the sockets. They are very rare and expensive. The other problem is finding a matched quad.
If you can handle a soldering iron, instructions for you. old defective el34 solder together the sockets are available here

normally you build nice amps with this tubes.;)

That’s what the guy from ebay answered.

My End Game Horizon Tube Kit read the link

as I suggested last week the big reveal would be forthcoming but I have learned to obtain my tubes and back ups before I feel comfortable revealing what II am using. Essentially I have 2 tube kits both using ECC 32 triodes. Each kit is a keeper with me but this last one in my system and for my ears is about as real as it gets. There is top to bottom linearity with nothing sticking out to suggest colorization. The present kit is like the OS1/RGN 2004 on steroids yet nothing stands out. Again I must remind everyone that this is what sounds best to my ears in my system. YMMV and if you try the SRS 551 remember that the adapter must be made from the original sockets

I’ve already done. The socket on ebay is not for the SRS. Too loose for it.
you also have to say that you don't want to use an rs 1003 tube. for the loktal tube srs 552 manufactured in gdr made by rft you this sockets.
Don't forget you need 12,6 v heating voltage.

There are many different shapes of the RGN 2004 as well . All make a difference IMO
Steve,
There are several different shapes/types to this Telefunken RGN 2004.
The age and rarity determines the price.
But do they sound the same?
IOW, I don't care about the age and rarity, but if a RGN 2004 sounds the same from a $1000 round to a $300 ST type, I will take the $300 one.
I was looking at buying a Telefunken RGN 2004, but now I may wait until you reveal your new rectifier.
BTW, I just swapped the 5687 for your 6900's and yes, they are amazing!
Thanks

I did reveal the new rectifier Valvo G2504

If you like the p17c you’ll love the OS1. The P17c surfaced from our source in France when the OS1 dried up. They are very similar but OS1 apparently is preferred. I stuck with the OS1
I got a set of p17c and they are truly amazing. Unfortunately, I haven't heard the OS1's.
The Tak 274B is awesome too.

My bad, I didn't notice.
Thanks

The Tak is indeed terrific until you hear the TFKN RGN 2004

FWIW there is a solid plate TFKN RGN 2504. It is even more money than the Valvo. The Valvo needs a special adapter

OS1/RGN 2004/ Mullard ECC32 is gorgeous to listen to. The SRS551/Valvo G2504/ ECC32 however is top to bottom better dynamics on top of all the beauty of the OS1/RGN. ( mesh plate). The SRS 551 also requires an adapter that is difficult to make

I have two Tele NOS RGN2004 Klangfilm rectifier tubes. One is from a 1930 production and the other from 1932. I have been using the latter for the past couple of weeks.

When I put the 91 year old in the front chair of my Horizon, I have to admit I was nervous considering that it had not felt the flow of electrons through it mesh plates (other than testing) since Amelia Earhart finished her first non-stop solo flight across the Atlantic. However, when I powered up the Horizon, it sprang to life like a genie from a bottle.

It's sonic impact was immediately apparent, which surprised me because it's a rectifier tube after all (a 10% contribution according to Lukasz). I've done a basic cycle through of my top favourites who occupy the converter seats of my Horizon (e.g. Telefunken 802s, Thomson 5687, Mullard ECC32, Brimar 13D9, Tung Sol GTBs and Ken-Rad JAN VT-231). In the front post, I have also tried the factory favourite as well as the Taka 274B and the Sophia Electric 274B. The later was my go-to, like Will (Golf).

The RGN2004 adds more goodness to everything, over the others. More densification to the music (pith and substance to the sonics), more truth to tonality, more air and sustain while retaining inner detail and nuance and, most importantly (to my ear) - dynamics. This 91 year old has the snap and speed of Usain Bolt off the blocks!

I am waiting for my NIB (1943) Ken-Rad VT-244 (5U4G) so I can do a "vertical" with the Ken-Rad black and chrome soldiers assuming converter duties. I will report out my findings (continuing with my military metaphors) after sufficient break-in.

Pics below of the 91 year old with the Brimar 13D9s. I'm waiting for my upgraded adapter.

The TFKN RGN 2004 is simply exquisite . I have 2 that I will use with the OS1. I love it. But the SRS 551 and Valvo G2504 has all of the above but better dynamics. Both tube sets are permanent with me. My tube rolling days are done.
