Hi David

Yes have rolled quite a few tubes including the Ts metal base 6sn7 tubes. The gec b65 still sounds the best.

which metal base tubes did TS make?

This one David, found one on ebay for you

Is that tube legit? It looks like a Sylvania 6SN7W. Could be. I have never seen one.

The GEC B65s are $2k per pair so I won’t be trying one.

Can you compare it to a TS 6SN7(black glass, round plate)?

Looks like it but a different tube I understand. I haven't tried the black glass yet.from memory the brimar black glass is one above the ts black glass. Another hard one to get though

Guys please someone try out 6n1p if you have them...they really do sound great and they are dirt cheap. Adapter needed (6922 to 6sn7)
These are the good ones. Triple mica if you can find them or 1960’s production. 70’s not bad but anything later are bog standard imo.

The nos voskhod and reflektor 6h23p (6922 equivalent) are also very good. I preferred them to amperex 7308 in my old CJ pr140.

For the 5687 position, I would be tempted to try some old pinched waist amperex 7119 / Philips e182cc.

I am ready to declare the Tung Sol 6SN7 (black glass round plates variant) a better sounding driver tube in my setup than the 5687 or 6H30.

The 6SN7 gives the music more weight than the others while maintaining the proper tonality. The bass is deeper and fuller.
I recently added the NOS Tung Sol Black Plate 6SN7's to my mono amps that already have 16 Western Electric 300B tubes in them. I am very pleased with the upgrade in SQ.

I have some pinched waist E182CC. Philips or Valvo can't remember which.

Seriously microphonic. I've noted others having the same issue with pinched waist stuff.

I love my Horizon and what it brings to the table with all of the tube rolling options.

As Al Pacino said in Godfather lll

To wit, knowing Golum and dminches is not a good thing for my pocketbook. Over these past few months I have been loving my tube kit with the Thomson CSF 5687 but I have had urges to explore the 6SN7 especially having read David's brief post about "is there a more musical
tube than the 6SN7 ?"

I reached out to David who replied back in a post here about 3 6SN7's on sale at ebay

I had to find out what the fuss was all about and purchased a matched pair of TS JAN CTL 6SN7 GT

I have been using these now for the past 4 days and I have to say that they are nothing short of phenomenal. They sound like the 5687 on steroids. Simply put the 3D sound stage along with a tighter and more articulate deep bass together with life like dynamics and decay have me
mesmerized. Together with the TS KT170 and the ever magical Takatsuki 274B has now taken me even deeper into the music . These 6SN7 impart a degree of reality that I have to admit, that although present with the 5687, is there in spades with this 6SN7

as always a big shout out to David as I have gone to school on his putt
