Yeah, delivery ETA was estimated as May 13, which is why I was pleasantly surprised when they showed up. Thanks for pointing me in the right direction for these, and also for the tubes, which may be here in about a week.

Glad you're back in action. I can't imagine how difficult the wait must have been.

It's nice to have the DAC running so quietly and optimally. The lag time was basically waiting on Toroidy for the custom spec tranny.

But my left ear is full of wax which I am trying to clear out without a visit to the doctor. I am not really in a position to evaluate anything realistically at the moment.

Glad you have your AD1 sockets and hope it works well in your system for your tastes.

Has anyone compared various U52s in the GG2? I know there are black and brown versions by GEC. There are some with D getters and others with pan. Any thoughts around any of the valve variants appreciated!

Not me Tim but follow this link and search for 5Z4GY. I have one right here but not tried it yet.

£20 on eBay (sold as Mullard but it's definitely the same valve) and rated as good as U52.

Be interested to hear about how it sounds. I don't find any Mullard 5Z4GY listed on eBay, at least by name, although there are Brimar and STC.

Mullard 5Z4GY on ebay

TBH there's no evidence Mullard made it. Or even Brimar. But sold as either the construction is identical.

What I will say is it is small, but nicely made. And pretty obviously genuinely NOS but I will test mine to make 100% sure.
Here is one branded Mullard.

I would go for the the first link on this post. It's half the price and identical. The seller is reputable.

OK 5Z4GY on the tester. Ignore good/bad markings. Full scale deflection is 100, not 10.

AVO manual says 40mA. Both halves come in ultra strong at 54mA absolutely identical both sides i.e. a full wave rectifier has two sections.

Excellent. Now for listening with Osram PX25 with potato masher as reference. The masher is still my fave all out best rectifier. For £10. LOL. Bear in mind this bugger is twice the price. Extortion!!!

Well on Isaac Chamber's album Looking Back I'd take the 5Z4GY as better with the Osram PX25 than the Chatham. More detail/greater sense of precision/tighter.

An excellent result. I am genuinely surprised. And it's straight out of the box.

Looks like those Head-Fi guys know what they are talking about.

Ah but not before I bought it.;)

Otis Taylor White African is sounding awesome despite a crap bit rate on TIDAL. Sometimes it just works that way. I have a Queens of the Stone age album that sounds better on MP3 that it does on CD. I am tempted to buy the Otis to see if that's the case here.

Just scored these bad boys. Lockdown may mean they take a while to arrive.

Loewe AD1/400. 4V 0.95V i.e. PX4 setting.
