Just after yesterday's post, the VT-25s turned up.
Marked slightly differently, they nonetheless appear identical inside for all intents and purposes. Sold as NOS, they were cheap at £250 the pair. I think they look to have seen some use TBH.
Not tried them yet.
Back to VT-62, here are a few more comments. When using my refurbished Accuphase M-60s compared to the Luxman M-800A, there's no hint that the soundstage is mildy restricted. Character wise the Accuphase monos couldn't really sound more different to the Luxman. They expose detail that's probably a bit much for most people, and with the VT-62s in place, you hear a sound that is massively high in resolution.
After about five minutes of being really impressed, I was convinced they wouldn't get away with this presentation without seriously messing up with some material. So I put on Karen Carpenter doing Masquerade thinking it would be a disaster. But it was excellent. And lengthy listening over a few days confirms no troubles over a range of different genres.
WRT to bass concerns and comments about excerpting an unnatural grip to the sound, for some reason this just isn't evident with the Accuphase monos in place.
So basically it's just a great match. I'm not saying the Accuphase amps are better than the Luxman, please note. But I do hold three power amp choices permanently for use in my system. I do this because rather than constantly buying new gear, I find swapping them around is enough to cure the urge to do so.
Please be aware once again these aren't for standard Lampi use. I'm just doing some private research
