Magico M7 2023

Coming back to the M7. I am sure the M7 will image very well if setup correctly.
As they are not even available yet I will withhold judgement until and if I'm lucky enough to hear a $375,000.00 speaker.

I know the imaging of the Magico M Project speakers very well, having heard it in a friend's system in different locations within one room, with different gear.. Good localization, but no sharp image outlines, no pinpoint imaging.

Just as it should be.

Since it is an even larger speaker, I expect the M7 to avoid pinpoint imaging as well.

Just as it should be.

Scott, you don't have to wait for the M7, you can hear $375K+ speakers from Wilson, Magico (M9), Tidal, Goldmund, Rockport, Gryphon, Alsyvox and I can think of several others. Here is a list of 10 additional $375K+ speakers that you would not normally even think about.

Many expensive speakers out there.

First priority for me is entering a room that I want to spend time in...
One of the things that sold me in working with Bonnie Schnitta of SoundSense was her comment “I don’t want a room to just sound good, it has to feel good as well”. Like the rest of my home, I want a warm, welcoming, peaceful gestalt. I’m lucky to have a great view.

Has anyone noticed how unadorned the rooms are in the marketing photographs from Wilson and now suddenly Magico? The speakers are photographed in large stately rooms with lots of wooden paneling and high ceilings, and often a piano. Admittedly there are also often large windows...
Wilson, and Magico too, never divulge the source of the special invisible unobtainium speaker cables used in the marketing photos. I’ve been looking for those forever. My wife sure wishes I could find them. I do hope they sound good!

The closest we get is that we managed to run our cables n conduit under the floor. They come up behind the equipment rack so no cables from equipment until you get to the speaker. It is not perfect because the cable is still coming out of the back of the Wilsons...fortunately the speaker posts are low close to the floor.

Having just purchased (three months ago) the insanely expensive Alexx V's I'm not in the market for new speakers. Took me a year to convince myself to purchase these speakers. Philosophical I am having trouble getting my head around the stratospheric prices of audio gear these days. I was talking with an audiophile friend the other day about this. We both owned the AR-XA turntable back in the day. I could purchase it from the proceeds of mowing 7 lawns in the neighborhood. He had a similar but different story as he was raised in Brooklyn, NY. We found great value in these products. Don't know that I'd ever find great value in a $400,00.00 speaker?

I know a LOT of people that would think it would be CRAZY to buy a $135K+ speaker. It's all relative. Enjoy your new Alexx V's. Beautiful speakers and again a beautiful room!

Men are sometimes sent to the dog house. Mike is sent to the barn.

Just joking with you Mike. I would love to have a space like that.
just having a bit of fun. i wish my room was less of a rats nest in certain spots. i appreciate a clean, elegant and tidy listening area. but i'm too much of a gear hound and performance freak for my own good. if it sounds better, that's what i'm doing. no compromise.

no barn, and my gear in the living room would have it's benefits. it's not all 100% better life experience with a dedicated room. there is a price to pay.

we will see where i am in 5 or 10 years.

There is always Munich for such endeavors :D

Except that show sound often just isn't good.
This is exactly why I don't go. Sounds like a great social gatherings but not for critical listening. Did hear the XVX's a few weeks ago at my dealer and was absolutely "blown away".

You don't have to be in the market or think about pricing. Just go listen to M9, Alsyvox, and Kondo Diesis, all of which are three very different philosophies. And see what you think. Just use good LPs for audition.

I would love too, however I have no audio dealers in my corner of the world. While I love Texas, I'm not inclined to hop on a plane to have a listen. Kinda like a suggestion by a member to change out all my windows to acoustic glass. High end audio thrives on inefficient markets (an economics term). This means we all have to make decisions with imperfect information. Is this by design? If you're suggesting we could get "more" for less I would agree. But in this hobby the deck is stacked against us IMO.

This I understand — and it is a limiting factor for many. Not many will travel like Ked (Bonzo) to the corners of the world to have a listen, with the result like you say making decisions with scant information. For a long time I was locked into what was available in my local market, or gear I had prior history with. But when you start paying/playing in the upper echelons of the hobby it is worth it, I think, to maybe make a long weekend of it and visit someplace where you can explore and get exposed to more options.

Trying to avoid sounding sexist - maybe the wife visits the spa or does some retail therapy while you do some listening, then dinner and a nice bottle of wine, maybe catch a show. There is a world of gear out there and in the price category of your Alexx V’s some serious contenders. I’m in no way implying your Alexx V’s are a bad choice or, having heard others, you wouldn’t make the same choice. Just speaking to the idea “you don’t know what you haven’t heard.”

Isn't this implying one shouldn't purchase anything until they listen to everything? So in other words, never purchase anything.

Clearly one can never hear it all — but expanding the pool of options I think is valuable. I would offer hearing different approaches is most important, e.g. panels vs horns vs traditional cones, ported vs un-ported vs open baffle, etc. While an audio trade show isn’t a place to make definitive decisions (imho) it is a great place to hear these various approaches.
