So Ayton basically walked and signed a Max contract with the Pacers. So is the door open now for KD and Ben Simmons to go to the Suns
I'm happy for Ayton. Unless the Suns fill the hole created I can't see them beating the Warriors in the WC
Report: Deandre Ayton agrees to max offer sheet with Pacers
The former No. 1 overall pick will find out within 48 hours whether Phoenix will match the offer.
I'm surprised. Suns didn't make an extension offer and let Pacers bid the max deal, only to match it. And Ayton cannot be traded for 1 year, so that will leave them practically with the core lineup, without a possibility of KD coming in.
From my understanding, Ayton , as a RFA, also has a no-trade clause with Phoenix. How or when that happened, I am not sure. Now that the Suns have matched the offer sheet of the Pacers, Ayton's contract belongs to Phoenix including that no-trade clause. So, imo, he can refuse to sign a 'sign and trade' deal IF he doesn't like that team he will be traded to. But if he likes to be with that other team, then he should sign a waiver to cancel the no-trade clause. Kevin Garnet did just that when he was traded from the Celtics to the Nets.
I wonder if Ayton will be happy at this kind of turn of events, that of feeling not wanted when the Suns let another team make the max offer sheet, then to match it eventually. If he is a true pro, he should just play on, but if CP3 retires, then the title hopes goes down with it.

Now that Phoenix owns him for up to four years, I think they can put pressure on him to have high energy the whole game.
They need that with JaVale and Kaminsky moving.
woke up to this lengthy interview of Jeannie Buss. Reading it made me choke on my breakfast cereal when she stated the Lakers will be competitive this year. She also talked about ongoing discussions about the team with Pelinka, ther Lakers new head coach and of course LeBron
Good read but clearly delusional on her part. It was touching however to read her comments about Kobe

So KD is not getting his wish. He might just have to honor his contract and play in Brooklyn. What a dastardly deed that is. As much as I like KD , sadly he too pumped his chest and stated "I want out". Bottom line is , that as great as he is, he is 38 yo and Ayton is 24. I applaud the Suns for not blowing up their roster. Whoever tries for KD will be giving up the farm and lets face it, how many years is KD going to be competitive let alone continue to play

Agree, Steve. The professional way is to honor the contract. It's a new thing to see a super max salaried player throw a tantrum because of his head case buddy Irving. This is not a wrestling tag team where you get to protect of partner. In fact, KD has 14 other partners on the roster, if he wants to protect them too. Next up will be Miami, let's see what which farm they will offer.
dumb idea IMO as the Lakers aren't going to win a championship this year with either of them but I'm all in to get rid of LeBron but it aint going to happen as he sells tickets

KD couldn't single handedly will a win v Boston these playoffs.
That surprised me, as he has had that ability to lift his play beyond mere mortals previously.
Wondering if due to age, he is heading back to earth.

Not to belabor the point BUT James and his business partner Maverick Carter are both investors of the Fenway Sports Group, which owns the Red Sox, Liverpool FC, the Pittsburgh Penguins and RFK Racing.
