New Album & The Beginning of Basketball Season

This morning's Lakers humor....

I watched the game with my daughter, flipping back and forth between it and the Sharks game. At the beginning of the 4th quarter, we went to eat dinner - we had the game on the DVR, so we knew we wouldn't miss anything. We came back to the game with about 5 minutes to go and the announcers were talking about 4 players having been ejected, but the announcers did not identify who got ejected. I immediately said to my daughter: "I bet anything that Matt Barnes was one of the players". We rewound the game to the time of the scuffle. Sure enough, Matt Barnes had come out of nowhere to shove Jason Terry. Matt Barnes is a punk. He continues to be a cheap shot waiting to happen.

Steve, I used to like Barnes ... when he played with the Warriors. But I've watched him *grow* since then and he's turned into a cheap shot. BTW, you're potentially right about the 4/12 game against the Spurs determining home court advantage in the West. I say potentially because the Lakers still have a road game against Portland, who always play the Lakers really tough. If the Lakers win that game, then the 4/12 game is for all the marbles. I'll have my tequilas ready for that game.

BTW, get tickets for Peter Gabriel at the Greek, Friday, June 10. I've seen him more times than I can remember and he is the best. Great, great stage presence with theatrics, great catalog of songs, and, well, it's the Greek which is the absolute best venue in the Bay Area. I've already got my tickets and my flask ready!!

I have never seen him. I think we will go too

Yes on 4/12

Now here is something else I thought of

What if the Finals are Bulls-Lakers and the two teams finish with identical records. Who gets home court. I know the Bulls beat the Lakers once but can't remember if they swept the Lakers. If so, Bulls get home court. Then it falls to division and conference records and it gets pretty close

The Lakers are now only 1.5 games back with 7 more games to go. I believe they will end up first seed in the West. They are playing full-throttle. The Heat are now 2nd and the C's have slipped to 3rd. What an end stretch.

Best NBA season I can remember in many years. I still believe the April 12th game could decide it all

Lakers were certainly not playing full throttle in the first half losing by almost 20 points before they decided to play

I thought Andrew was off his game last night

And unfortunately, a lot of the goodwill generated this season might be blown by a lockout this summer. Anybody read Bill Simmons column on NFL owners?

Though I think some small market NBA owners are in a very different situation.

In case Boston has to meet Chicago in the playoffs, it is quite interesting to note that Chicago's present Head Coach was Boston's Assitant Coach just last season, and his specialty was Defense. And what an advantage it will be for Chicago to have a coach who was the master of the C's D. Now he would be doing a D on the C's. LOL Boston should be looking at next season, hoping to land Dwight Howard. :)

Did you see the Bulls vs Raptors yesterday. D Rose was amazing, a true super star. Definitely MVP candidate caliber who will likely win it

Missed that one, but I can imagine his play just looking at the box score. And yes, I'd vote for him as MVP too. Great guy. No frills. Pure basketball player.

Missed it too, but he does a couple of amazing things every night. His fake crossover earlier this season was something I've never seen before and nearly impossible to do. And I think it was just an instinctive play.

He's also become a devastating scorer in crunch time.

Not really, they just lost by 1. And when a young kid like Hayward burns you for 22 points, it's just one of those games when those with nothing to lose just plays loose and cool. This game just sets LAL back 3.5 games as the Spurs won. And SA's magic number should be 2, if I'm not mistaken. Watching the 76'ers/Celtics game, I am amazed that young players are shining in the Philly team of Doug Collins. Turner, Meeks, Young, and Holiday all are playing so well for this Sixer team headed for the playoffs.

Did the Lakers peak too early?

good question Ron

Hayward burned them last night and they were cold and totally off their game. I do believe that in an 82 game schedule it is tough if not impossible to sustain their momentum for every game

Seems none of the top 4 teams in the west are anxious to face any of the bottom 4 teams in the west for obvious reasons

I don't think the Lakers peaked too early. They're allowed to lose once in a while.

They'll rise to the occasion in the playoffs and are absolutely the team to beat IMO.
