Clippers have no one to trade for nor do the other 2 teams

Interesting Boston wasn’t named.

Maybe we can start a petition to Magic

Straight up trade. LeBron for AD

Boston, maybe it's due to his father's comments. :)

Davis, and his camp, should know by now that in a trade, Davis does not (nor his agent) hold any cards. Davis is under contract till 2020 to play for the Pelicans - the Pelicans own him till his contract expires, and wherever he announce to want to play is irrelevant or insignificant for the Pelicans and the GM is after the best package any team can offer, and it can even be the Kings or the Cavs for that matter. The only reason why Boston is being called out in this saga is because of their young players now who can be used in a trade PLUS they have FOUR 1st round picks this year. Those 4, plus Rozier and Brown can be used. I'm sure Pelicans will demand Tatum be part of it, but I hope Ainge will not bite.

But Phil

if AD plays out his contract and signs elsewhere Pelicans get nothing, so that won't happen. Once again if Boston trades for him or any team for that matter he has said that he will be a rental player for a year so my guess is something will happen before trade deadline. Even if the Pelicans trade him to Boston at the end of the season he says he will be a rental player

Everybody thought Paul George was a rental player in OKC but he ended up signing a long term deal. Same thing could happen with Davis in Boston if they trade.

Lakers have one good player to trade - Kuzma. Ingram and Lonzo haven't proven anything yet. Nobody will put any value on Lance, Rondo maybe a little. They do have some draft picks to use.

Celtics have an arsenal of draft picks plus some good players to throw in the mix.

Clippers have Jerry West - the master of trades. :)

Yes, all that is true, Steve. What I meant was that the list of 4 teams Davis wants to be does not have to be the only teams the Pelicans talk to. Just what what happened to Kawhi, Pop shipped him to the North bec deRozan was a guy he felt the Spurs could benefit from. Ainge knows if ever after July 1 the Pelicans trade with him, Davis is a 1 year rental. But that is not the problem of the Pelicans, it is the problem of Ainge, as for example if he includes Tatum (who has a super friendly 5 year rookie deal two years ago), he might lose Davis after only 1 season, which is the 'rental'.

Agree, so the Pelicans have this half a season, and maybe the early part of next season to trade away Davis or get nothing. That is their problem. But now, they are bargaining at a position that they still have a lot of time from now to beginning of next season - then by trade deadline of next season and they haven't traded Davis - Pelicans will be a dead duck, no pun intended. :)

:)

The only scenario I can see if ever Davis lands in Boston after July 1 to play 1 season and sign an extension is when the Celtics win the title in that 1 year rental period. I cannot imagine anybody bolting a team after winning the title. :)

I can't disagree with one word you said except for the Celtics or anyone to whom he is traded, it is a crap shoot. Paul George IMO was more the exception than the rule and AD has nmade it clear Boston isn't a place he cherishes. As you say he has no say until his contract is up SO it's a crap shoot if AD would stay and the celtics would get nothing

The Clippers, now that's interesting but IMHO they don't have an arsenal of great players or 1st round draft choices

Knicks...Interesting but can they really win a title. He wants to go where he win a title.
Finally let us not forget that his agent is also Le Bron's and finally, finally let us wonder what stimulated AD to want out before trade deadline. A phone call from one or both of them perhaps

That was what Barkley called 'collusion', but Kenny Smith finds nothing wrong with it, so did Shaq who said it is all business. Apparently the only thing in violation was that Davis and his agent said it publicly, hence the $50k fine. But other than that, it appears business as usual and some talk show guy said that David Falk was the Rich Paul of the 90s.

If Magic bites on that one it would be an absolute exercise in futility and do nothing more than to preserve James legacy. My hope is the Lakers are going to pass on that

One final thought

I have said it here before

Groin injuries are serious as they can become lingering and recurrant

Add this to his 16 years in the NBA and the Lakers might have one shot at a title but only with major trades. I have watched him play his entire career and he has always been a phenom but not this year IMHO. He always seemed hesitant, wasn't making shots he made before and his free throw shooting is an all time low. He is NOT the future of the Lakers but rather these young kids. I truly hope they make the playoffs this year but his record of going to the finals is long gone

It may have been business as Shaq called it but to me it was out and out collusion and James won't stop interfering until Luke and many others will have been traded or fired

DON'T DO IT MAGIC !!!

and here is the fallout........

As Anthony Davis trade talks heat up, young Lakers looking for answers
Questions arise among Lakers' core about LeBron James' role in potential talks approaching Feb. 7 trade deadline

If it was LeBron James’ intention to change the mood in the Lakers’ locker room here in his first season in L.A., consider it a resounding success. The morale for a team that went 35-47 last season and missed the playoffs is indeed different.

It’s more somber.

After speaking with a number of players, their agents and other sources, the general consensus paint a picture of little joy, plenty of confusion and uncertainty, along with some anger and sense of betrayal. It’s all caused by the Lakers’ obvious and public pursuit of Anthony Davis and the players who unquestionably will be shipped out to New Orleans in exchange for the All-NBA forward if a trade happens before Thursday’s deadline.

None will speak on the record but it’s obvious the Davis issue is sensitive and weighing on most of the roster, especially the young core of Brandon Ingram, Josh Hart, Kyle Kuzma and Lonzo Ball. They wonder if their days in L.A. are numbered and also wonder what, if any, role LeBron has in determining who goes and who stays.

Various reports have the Lakers offering up virtually everyone on the roster for Davis, along with multiple No. 1 picks. Clearly, the pace has changed for the Lakers. After saying last summer the Lakers are intent on building a team that will be a contender for years and not just in the short term, team president Magic Johnson’s timeline has accelerated if the proposed packages for Davis are true.

And how can they not be? New Orleans wants a combination of young players and picks for a game-changing player such as Davis. The Lakers own no other assets.

In the meantime, the Lakers, currently on a road trip, are dealing with turbulence and not necessarily while thousands of feet in the air. Michael Beasley and JaVale McGee had a verbal post-game exchange with coach Luke Walton two nights ago in Oakland after a loss to the Warriors, and although it wasn’t sparked by the Davis issue directly, the trade rumors are causing stress and perhaps pushing tempers as well.

In the center of it all is LeBron.

Davis has been represented since last fall by Klutch Sports, the agency created by LeBron and run by his business partner and close friend, Rich Paul. The LeBron link to a player agency has caused a degree of concern among other NBA general managers, who wonder if there’s a conflict of interest and if it’s a good look for the league.

It also has rival agents suspecting that LeBron is involved in talks for Davis and at the very least serving as a sounding board for Magic and Laker executive Rob Pelinka. It wouldn’t be unreasonable for the Lakers to get LeBron’s hot take on this or any major decision involving personnel; that’s a perk enjoyed by a number of star players throughout the NBA, and has been for years.

But: Following the Lakers’ victory over the Clippers last week when LeBron made his return after missing 17 games with a groin injury, he repeatedly expressed how thrilled he was to be back on the floor with "my guys” and that didn’t sit well with some of his teammates, according to their agents.

Essentially, they’re not sure where they stand with LeBron in the Davis situation. And the young players appear too intimidated to confront LeBron and get clarity.

There’s another issue at play here: Are the Lakers planning to surrender too much for Davis by gutting the team?

If the Lakers are willing to part with their young core and at least two veterans to make the salaries match, who’s left to make them competitive with Davis and LeBron?

The Pelicans, according to league sources, are insisting that any team wanting Davis must also take guard E’Twaun Moore and his contract in return. This will allow the Pelicans to get young players, multiple picks and salary cap flexibility in a single transaction. In a sense, Davis is indeed a franchise player — trading him might allow the Pelicans to remake their entire franchise.

Davis reportedly gave the Pelicans other teams on a wish-list, yet those teams’ options appear limited. One is the Bucks, who lack promising young players, and given that Milwaukee is leading the East, their first-round pick won’t be attractive. Another is the Knicks, who won’t have defined assets until after the draft lottery in May when their place in the June draft will be revealed.

If the Pelicans decide to wait until summer, that means they believe there’s a better deal waiting after the draft and free agency. That places urgency on the Lakers to get something done before Thursday.

One way or another, whether he comes to the Lakers or stays in New Orleans at least for the next five months, Davis will bring some relief and help clear the air to a Lakers team that desperately needs it.

Lakers traded D'Angelo Russell to Brooklyn to make way from Lonzo Ball.

D'Angelo just made the NBA All Star team. Lonzo....still has a ways to go.
