Hello and welcome to Wbf.
Looks like a really competent system you have there.
Nice to see another member who also have the Marten Mingus Quintet :)

Beautiful. Would love to hear more about your DAC and perhaps what other options you were considering and why you went this way? Thank you!

Thanks mate.
I know a hifi importer very well and have been buying gear from him for 20 years. He gives me first options on kit that’s been traded in. I then consider the offer, read reviews, look at specs etc and then decide whether it will suit my system.
I was in the process of upgrading my streaming side and had already purchased the APL, at a great price, which is a superb streamer. I had it upgraded to the latest SE spec before I picked it up.
I was using it with my Ayon S10 in DAC mode. As I no longer needed the pre amp stage in the Ayon I was on the lookout for a DAC only. It was a no brainer to grab the Pilium. Great timing. So I traded in my Ayon S10 signature.
I have also owned the monster Pilium integrated.
It’s excellent gear.
The APL and Pilium DAC is an awesome combo. I never expected to owned a DAC this good, the retail price is insane.

Did you also brought Pilium Leonidas?

Yes but I traded that in on the Vitus Pre/Power.
Congrats!,
the Leonidas is BEAST!
About three and a half years ago I compared the Leonidas to a KARAN REFERENCE set (600+KAL3 REF) and the Pilium Leonidas simply sounded significantly better, as far as the "purity" of sound, the literal physical weight of the instruments, silence and clarity, proper naturalness,
the KARAN sounds anemic and stuffy next to it.

at the same session I closed on PILIUM's PRE + POWER full set.

Nice one! I bet the pre power is an awesome combination. They aren’t easy to move around! The Leonidas was bloody heavy

Yes, they are extremely heavy, the FlightCase added a lot of weight to the already massive weight.
