New OMA turntable

According to the video they added a relatively heavy platter, large bearing and a sleeve that will produce required viscosity IOT achieve good speed stability and w&f. Most direct drives don’t have that friction/viscosity that will tame high torque. I’m sure that it improved the sound but I heard it in Munich this May and it wasn’t something special, nor dynamic. It’s pretty much like a good direct drive but plain, lacking dynamics and insight of top belt drives with heavy platters. Although I haven’t heard any other source than K3 in OMA room to compare but existence of horn speakers produced a kind of liveliness and when you listen long enough you feel the lack of dynamic swings but only horn loudness. I liked döhmann helix more for example and pick a heavy platter belt drive design over this one any day.

Interesting that he says he couldn't consider a re-imagined idler for the 2020s because the tooling would be too pricey. Yet Win Tinnon has managed it w the Saskia.

I do believe his products are of very high quality and high performance. However, listening to him talk about them, and in particular, competing products.....is difficult to do without rolling my eyes.

He lacks a few levels of humility and tact.

As witnessed by the thing itself: a turntable that has its own spotlights.

I would like to see a miniature blimp that flies around it shining lights.

On the other - while not knowing if it delivers on the anthems sung about it -- you've got to marvel at this project in our time. He has created something that only a few would undertake to do.

Nothing like confidence in your own product.
DDK has the same worlds best turntable claim for his AS2000.

Listening to both in the same system would be interesting

Curiously they never refer comparing it with master tapes played in a top reference machine.

I have mentioned it many times, master tape on a properly maintained top tape machine will be most natural problem is the extremely limited software and state of the machines. Looking at average software and machines top end record players are superior when setup correctly.

If it's that important to you, go have some fun and search Peter's Natural sound thread and Tangs thread. From memory he said it in one of those.

Nothing wrong with DDK thinking he makes the best turntable.
