PS: The XP-22 will be replaced in the next few weeks with an EMM Labs PRE.
Why are you replacing the XP22 ? I recently replaced mine as well, was a better match with the XA25 than my current amp.

EMM Labs allowed me to try their PRE and DAC in my home. As compared to the Pass XP-22 the differences were not slight. I had more of everything. The details in the music reached new heights.

I tried the EMM DAC with the XP-22 as well. No comparison, EMM won the day. Later I may be going with EMM monos as well. They are bringing those for me to audition sometime after the New Year.

I'm using an XVR1 that I bought used to bi-amp TAD R1s. Andrew Jones was very helpful identifying the correct settings on the XVR1. The system sounds great. We sent the XVR1 to the factory have them look it over, and it works flawlessly. The amps are Benchmark ABH2s, four in mono.
Why do you need XVR1 for this?

I think I’m in the right place, new Pass owner checking in.
I just upgraded from an Odyssey Stratos to an X250.8. It’s been no more than 4 hours listening time, and I’m really struggling to articulate the new sound I’m getting. Yes, there are things I’m hearing in music I’ve been listening to for 30+ years, but it’s more than that. There is a quality to the sound that I can’t put my finger on that keeps me planted on the couch.

Anyway, hi to all….

Congrats. When it breaks in you will even enjoy it more. My 260.8s produce a tube-like sound.

Hello English,

Good move - I too moved from a Odyssey Audio Khartago Mono Blocks to a Pass X150.5. Main things I noticed was that the Pass was far more powerful. The Khartagos would die around 80 watts - get very hard sounding. The Pass is a more effortless sound, as well as being a softer, more tube like sound. Not soft in the sense of rounding edges and attacks, but more gentle, more like an actual instrument being played. Klaus at Odyssey builds an EXCELLENT AMPLIFIER but Nelson is a step beyond.

In addition I have always noticed that FET output devices are less "hard" sounding than BJTs. Something about the BJT drives the attacks right to the wall. Not bad on some music - but not good on other genres.

I used to have dual X150s and ran them passive biamp. I bought them along with an X5 around 2000. I traded up the x150s for xa100.5 around 2016 but kept the X5 -recapped by Pass last year and still going strong. XVR1 added as well to run the subs.

Happy Pass Camper here.:);)

XVR1 is a real gem. Too bad that it’s discontinued. Interesting to see Magico and Wilson both introducing new crossovers.

Yes, tubes like my VAC phono stage … But Pass is really tube-like. It’s uncanny great the sound is.

Thats impressive.
The irony ie you describe your Pass as tube like. I would describe VAC as solid state like.Go figure.

Re: XVR1 use it as both crossover and buffer. I played around quite a bit with the internal jumpers. The 2wq Vandersteen subs run on the high pass by design and fed by the X5 then on to the sub via speaker level out.

Very Nice System Audire.

My furniture is more old school. I like the woody sound. 4DF84F12-1CFA-4583-9D28-9E974C4D8568.jpeg

I like the wood. Our CD Rack and Record rack are wood. Wood helps tone down everything. Awesome looking system.

Hello everyone!

I've just acquired an XP20 preamp today and looking for someone to help me out with an issues I'm experiencing, you can imagine my frustration ((

When adjusting the volume I hear a popping sound, which becomes evident between 50-83 steps

This noise is not present during playback, but again only while adjusting volume

I've sent an email to Pass Labs support, also posting here hoping someone can provide some guidance

Below clip shows the issue

I'm using Mark Levinson 436 amps.

Thank you
