As quickly as God makes money, he makes as many reasons to spend it all.

We have our secondary residence in France since late 90 , I agree about the food and good restaurants too.
Btw Chateau Minuty - a very nice Provençal property with outstanding rosè is for sale after Brad and Angelina divorced;)
Too bad about Brangelina. It broke my heart. I hear Brad is now in some sort of open marriage malarkey. These people don't pick their partners anywhere near as well as they pick their parts.

And one more consideration for castles (in France). After 15 years of real estate boom they are actually worth .... less (and that is before counting in ridiculous new laws and regulations which make you pay through your nose for „mandatory“ works... . But i guess it is as with wines and making fortunes there.

I bless my father who sold his shares in the small manor house that has been in the family since 1818. Each time I meet my cousins, I hear them complaining about the maintenance costs. The building is listed. You need to get prior approval for a lot of works. You are only allowed to use specially licensed contractors who are, of course, much more expensive.

Sounds like highest end audio.

It looks in good order.

It was £3million so it seems.

It is not far from me. And not far from Bath.

Checkout this YT video of Devizes Castle. There's another but everyone is drunk or playing tug of war.

Ron if you want something like Marc's but decent (LOL) and in a reasonable location check out this:

It's bit shit the home theatre only has an 84 inch screen. For 7.5 million that's not good...:)

BTW the reason Devices Castle is cheap is because no one outside of London really has any money.

And those with money in London are usually not English.

IMHO of course.

No doubt...its haunted as heck. LoL.

I read on Wikipedia that the current structure was used as a POW prison in WWII, and that prior incarnations of the castle were used as prisons by Henry II and Henry III.

The current structure was built starting around 1830. But if grounds are haunted by ghosts and torture surely the land on which the castle is built has tales to tell.

. . . I expect in this instance it is likely that the costs to make the castle viable would be more than the cost of purchase and ongoing running costs being astronomically high.

. . .

This is what I was assuming when I found the listing. (The least expensive part of ownership would be the initial purchase.)

Thank you, Bill.

like my 'castle' just fine. got a gate, corral, and barn. out in the toulies too.

the community does have an architectural committee, but i have no plans to worry them.

only issue is audiophiles do come around some.

i do admit it's not super cool 2 hours from London.

Interestingly, the weather averages are similar. (Bellevue enjoys more convertible weather during the Summer.)

Most importantly the Barn is free of ghosts!

(Can you imagine the ambient noise a swarm of ghosts could make during late night listening sessions?)

As fascinating as the castle is (and I just read that the underground tunnel can be used as a shooting range!) the "three kinds of damp" really put a damper on my interest.

Mold on the walls makes a lovely absorber.
Water dripping down windows keeps air hydrated.
Damp patches on wall and ceilings act like these foo acoustic discs from Mook, ASR or SR.
What's not to like?

Look at the video. Whoever has been living there could afford it. There won't be any damp.

Well, I'd put money on it...:)
