I don’t get people in this thread — it almost feels like Ron vs. Horns are God Cult. Gentlemen, I wish you nothing but the best with your horns. I will give you brass big band sound and I will give you symphonic orchestra, but for the love of sweet baby j stop bullying this narrative that voices can sound good on horns. They can sound decent, but they are inferior to open baffle designs. You’ll just have to take that loss.

I, like many others, can’t live with a hifi system that can’t reproduce the human voice in the way I hear it in real life so (surprise) I steer clear of horns.

Lastly, and this is a purely subjective gripe. Horns are ugly.

Thanks.

Maybe you can start a separate thread on this topic. Might make for an interesting discussion.

Don't ascribe to videos a sound that is just not in there (most system video fans appear to make that mistake). You may, from memory, be projecting onto videos the sound and dynamics of the actual speakers in the room, but that's not what's factually in the video. That's emotional projection, sidestepping an analytical attitude.

Projecting? Yeah, that's the ticket. :D

That would be quite some trick to pull off !
It was a joke but I don’t regret making it. I don’t regret anything.

Alas, The Little Sparrow (“La Môme Piaf) is dead. Piaf means sparrow in Parisian slang.

Heh , No worries Larry … I caught your drift , I wish you joy of your relocation , which sounds rather enticing.

It does sound enticing, until you start trying to make it happen, lol.

This morning, I was thinking about how Ron would ever move his system to Europe.

So, Peter, the selected path to a largely finished system (except for maybe some cable experimentation) is:

-- new preamp

-- Mastersound PF100s or Jadis JA120s

-- upgrade to Auditoriums
And I am.truly.happy for you and I mean it.
At my home office down south I play music hours per day. It's why I made that room dual purpose.
All is left on except my tube pre amp and krell amp . They go on in the am and i do turn them off at times during the day.
Now having said this I could not imagine myself in my chair for hours on end . I can't stay focused that long in music.
Same in NYC place .
but you do and I think this means in part your home . Try to stay there lol.
Regarding bigger panels , have you tried siting closer to gain some dynamics that a larger panel would give you.
Down south I sat at 11 to 12 feet but now at 8 to 9 feet to ear . That change is a monster in all aspects.
Again my thoughts

Sorry, Ron, I believe I deleted the posts. Let me know if I have not. I also created my own thread.

We are moving to France in the summer. I’ll be able to hear Edith Piaf live. :)

Throw on some Billie Holiday.
Thank you!

Interesting that you feel this way. I have said for a long time that planar dipoles present voices to my ears in a way that I find more convincing than the best horn systems I have heard. (Relatedly, I have said that if I listened primarily to classical, or to classical and jazz, I would have a horn system.)

And you guys still can’t post videos that do vocals remotely close to the ones posted on the vocals video thread, male or female. While I was previously an apogee fan, I haven’t heard any planars do vocals like some horns, but of course the difference increases on classical, rock, and jazz. In fact the Apogees did rock, not vocals, better than all horns except dual FLHs.

The first time I got interested in a horn was when I heard opera sound much better on 2w 45 amps and TAD based horns compared to the Martin Logans.

Have to admit i have never heard any planets doing vocals myself ….

Incito S has an output impedance of <50 ohms. In its -6dB settings its output impedance is 12 ohms.
The active circuit is a single tube per channel that is used in a single ended configuration not balanced or push/pull. So, even if used as balanced output, which of course you can do with it, the circuit is native single ended.

Semantics. IMO it is relevant to refer that its output is transformer coupled with a 5:1 ratio transformer that decreases the impedance by a factor of 25.

We can add such type of transformer from known high quality manufacturers to most SE preamplfiers and , voila, we have low impedance.

Long ago we had a thread on the excellent Interocitor One designed and manufactured by Steve McCormack, made just for such purposes. Gray Koh was so enthusiastic on it that I even bough one!

I don’t care how you achieve it and transformer coupling is a tried and true way to get low impedance. High quality ones though add a lot to the cost of a product. Low impedance is low impedance…wothout the use of negative feedback.

This morning, I was thinking about how Ron would ever move his system to Europe.
That Ron, who now loves his setup, would send it to France for you to enjoy....well, that just says everything about the guy.

@Ron Resnick , where do I find photos of your current setup? Thanks. Great that you enjoy what you have!

Ok, but others may care and want to be informed of it.

Yes. The same way we can have balanced inputs and outputs in any device. People also want to know about it.

Not forcefully. We can have excellent ones for around $300 .

Yes.

I was just worried for Ron if he had to get out of town quickly. They rent 40 foot containers, lol. :)

with all the semanticists on this thread (and those crazy horn cultists), he might need to.

he is probably online right now looking for the containers...
