Say what you want about Wilson

"Say what you want about Wilson"

Well, if I can say what I want ... why did I bother listening to 'em ...

(just kiddin)

Actually, I've only heard them in passing, within systems that, well, played very loud but certainly didn't live up to my "audiophile" expectations. However, I'm certain they're potentially much better than what I've heard on display ... hell, they should be ... so I'll refrain from saying what I want at this particular time ...

Hi

Wilson is:

The Target
The Company to beat
The Company everyone loves to hate
The Company every single High End Audio manufacturer envies or at least is jealous of.
Need I say more?

Few companies have that aura in High End Audio, maybe Mac Intosh, can't find another
Even when they punt, their afficionados find excuses for them... (The WP8 was such a punt ... and frankly the WP5 and 6 were shrill speakers that required an amplifier with dropping highs to play decent, yet the WP5 may have been the most successful speakers in the History of High End Audio ...)

The reality is Wilson is a model of success. It is well run. It understands its market and serve it well.

I find most of their designs too expensive for the level of performance. I find their upgrade policy lacking (nonexistent?).

I am not a Wilson fan and do not plan to buy Wilson speakers. I, however, take my hat off to the way they're run and address their customers need.

You never cease to amaze me with the pictures you post that have absolutely nothing to do with the threads you post them in. Here in a Wilson thread, you drop in a picture of an old pair of Infinity IRS speakers. Why? What does this have to do with Wilson? What is your point??
Some people are more easily amazed than others.

wilson_xlf.jpgNow let's take my claim that Wilson installs mundane drivers in mundane enclosure at ever increasing prices.

Compare and contrast.

A picture is worth a thousand words.

I didn't know you claimed that Wilson installed mundane drivers into mundane enclosures.

Wilson doesn't make anything that expensive. Think Gary said it would cost $325k

No problem. I assumed you read the thread[ See post #26

That's an Ininity IRS V that sold for around $60k. The point is by looking at the pictures which seems to have the more elaborate drivers and enclosures.
My opinion of the Wilson sound is well described in the Wilson section.

Invite me to say what I want about Wilson and here is what I come up with. Despite mounting rather mundane drivers in rather mundane enclosure at ever increasing prices Wilson maintains the loyalty of his customers and is the darling of the audio press. Customers have no trouble substituting his previous perfect speaker for the latest. Price never seems to be a problem and the audio press never tires of presenting him with awrds
An enviable market position that must keep Alon Wolf awake at night.

It would be nice if people post a short summary or its intentions when they post a link to youtube. Otherwise most people are not able to follow the thread or know if they are interested without seeing it in full. Just MHO.

---- That's a smart idea.
