Scary Movies

The Omen (1976). I was still in high school then, and it was the talk of the town. Dare to watch or be branded a chicken. :D I can't forget the gory scenes, when the priest was struck by a falling steel bar. The nanny who hung herself. The dog chase leading to the cemetery. And of course, the infamous triple 6 which became a buzzword for 'evil'. I didn't even want to watch the 2006 remake.

...

You know whats good about movies? ...It's like music, you can like or dislike anything you want, it's great! :b ...We're free to choose; to love, to dislike.

I liked the remake. The original is excellent. The priest was played by one of the doctors from Doctor Who.

---- And here's the proof again (see my above quote). ...I respect your taste Mike, just not my cup'a-tea though. ... "Different strokes for different folks"; is that how they say it?

And the same goes for paintings, wines, cars, shoes, watches, women, .... :b

Agreed.
One of the things that I found a "sign of the times" was a scene in The Omen in which Gregory Peck was going into the U.S. embassy in Grosvenor Square. The place was hardly guarded. When I was there a few years back, there were armed guards and security checks. Even Damien would have had a difficult time getting passed.

Good observation, Mike.

I wonder if that was written too in the prophecies. :D

Clue: He thought he was going to score but she almost ate him!

Are you referring to that part of the script;

"You see, you just can't trust anyone. ...The first girl I let into my life and she tries to eat me."

---- Chapter 3, from the Blu-ray, gotcha!

* Here's near the very beginning of the film's opening clips:

** I also like the scene at the food market (grocery store), and that one too with Bill Murray, at his mansion.

The Conjuring. One heck of a scary movie. Sounds and visual effects were really horrifying. This guy James Wan is one heck of a filmmaker. Saw, and now this. I haven't seen Insidious, yet.

I'm looking forward to this one; it's not out yet here in the U.S until the 22nd.

Move over Dolby and DTS. Is the scariest way to watch scary movies a REALLY dark room, a tablet and IEM's. Hell yeah!

This is something I just happened to stumble on. The whole point was not to disturb the sleeping wife as I tried to get myself sleepy. I had downloaded the first season of The Strain to watch on the plane and hadn't finished it yet. Bored with word games I decided to give an episode a go. To make a long story short, it was quite the immersive experience. I don't know who did sound for this series but I gotta say the low level creepy sounds that swirl around you can really ratchet up the tension. When the "BOO!'s" come, which they inevitably do in this genre, it makes you want to jump off the bed. Another surprise is how adequate the screen sizes of a Pro Tab S or iPad are in relative terms to our family's 60" rumpus room LED and 100" HT. Held a t a comfortable distance it surely dwarfs a 42" at 8 to 10 ft.

I can feel what you're saying, Jack, but I'm not trying it. lol

"It Follows" was really good, a great surprise to find a good recent scary movie. Very good work with the direction and soundtrack as well.

JAWS, overlooked as horror, but it is.

Saw it as a preteen in the theaters first run. That night every time I fell asleep I dreamt that the shark would come sliding in my bedroom window. After about 5 or 6 times of that I turned on the light and read West Side Story in its entirety.

The cool thing about that movie was as a preteen, the girl in the row ahead of me. a teenager, was so scared that she held my hand over the back of the seat the entire movie. I thought I was THE MAN after the movie, my buddies not so much! :p:)

And going back to the OP, The Ring scared the crap out of me. Watched it alone in my theater in total darkness. Towards the end I told myself that if the phone rang I would just run out of the house. Then the menu pops up after the movie with the choice of "Do not watch this"...really!

When the movie (The Ring) was in the theater, they would wait till the movie was well underway, then they would bring out a tall ladder and lean it up against the wall. When the people came out of the movie they would freak out and run out the door.

The Ring 2, one of the worst movies ever.

One of the most disturbing endings to a movie ever was the remake of The Mist! Holy crap! Everybody in the theater was having a good time with typical King material, very much crowd participation. Then the ending scene happened and everyone walked out in utter silence.

Night of the Living Dead, still freaks me out every time, cant sleep after, it wont let me.

Not sure why but a Joan Crawford movie, "Strait-Jacket", always freaked me out.

The next ones I will watch is either 'House of the Devil' or 'The Babadook'.

It's been a while...since last posting in this thread.

Right now I cannot think of which was last time I was scared by watching a film.
I don't even remember what was the last horror/scary film that I watched, and that made a serious impact.
So I am reading the latest suggestions...from just above. :b ...With renewed interest in the genre. ...Just to keep up with what's avail today that can truly scare the hell out of me.

Apparently, 'Creep' is quite good too. Not a pure horror one as I see people referring to 'funny' and 'dark humour' or things like that.

I just want to watch a truly scary/horrific film so that my guts get ripped wide open and my eyes and ears bleeding blood, and puking too a little over my couch, from my mouth and brain.
Do you know any like that?

Once you've seen 'The Exorcist', I don't think any film is like that anymore.

Maybe try the new 'Maniac'.
