Hello everyone. I have borrowed this preamp from my local store. The Spectral DM30-SS. Can anyone tell me about its character and how it compares to todays designs? I will be using it now for a couple of weeks playing on my Martin Logan ESL 15 and YG Anat Ref II.

Any insights are most welcome!

All I can say is, it's clean and fast. Enjoy, I am a big Spectral fan. I use Spectral and hopefully one day change my pre-amp to 30SV. The 30ss is not the newest, but still a very good pre-amp.

Excellent preamp. There is a version 1 and a version 2. Both are superb. The version 2 had increased gain and a few changes to the boards.

Some of the changes are due to parts obsolescence so changes may be necessary.

Thanks! Good to know. How do you think the match is with a Gryphon Class A amp?

Thanks! Sounds good. Do you know how the SV compares to the SS sound wise?

Sorry I do not know, but I think I have heard someone else on here say they preferred the sound of the SV compared to SV S2. Not sure how the SS stacks up to the SV or SV S2.

Beautiful preamp, I have had one for many years. Its strong points are transparency and speed. Over the years I have tried various power amplifiers coupled with this wonderful Preamplifier, Plinius, kr, allnic, Ear, Griphon and Mbl and it has never disappointed me. If you really want to find a flaw, .. at low volume it does not express itself at its best. Be careful when pairing it with power cables. I found the squaring of the circle with the White Gold infinito 2 power cables (the same manufacturer as the Sigma Acoustics speakers), this cable balanced its dry character a bit, giving it a bit of warmth in the mid-low range. Over the years I have been able to compare it with other products, eventually replacing it with an AllniC L 10,000 Signature, the last comparison before replacing it I did with an MB L 6010 D but in terms of transparency there was no comparison. Another of the main characteristics is the ability to reproduce a large soundstage and excellent three-dimensionality.

Thanks for a really helpful answer ! I will stick to this one for a while now when evaluating my speakers.
