SuperHiRez DSD downloads...any one biting?

And they won't make that much more than a dime if they keep selling what's essentially "SACD rips".
Unfortunately, it seems Sony's plan for DSD is to sell the existing content again, not use it as a new delivery medium. In that aspect, PCM hi-res downloads are kinda "getting there", since a lot of new releases are simultaneously released on CD, LP and hi-res download.

Actually, on Superhirez.com, they are saying the Sony DSD titles are NOT SACD rips, but the files were prepared by Gus Skinas from SACD masters.

Same exact files.

Just like the DDP Master that I send to the plant is exactly the same as the CD rip.

Agree. Here is what they say:

DSD file created by Gus Skinas from the original Sony Super Audio CD cutting masters.

They are trying to make it clear they don't rip from the commercially released SACD optical disc.

It is really a nebulous affair - if you own the SACD what is the legal difference from ripping your own disc or getting someone else ripped file that has the same bit content?

With SACD, it is about the Digital Millennium Copyright Act. Since there is copy protection in place, if you bypass it, you are breaking the law. Whether you own the disc or not has nothing to do with it.

You obviously cannot sell a rip of your own SACD. However, you can probably legally have your SACDs ripped for a fee, provided the ripper does not keep a copy of the files for his own use.

No Eric, it would not be legal.

Anyone actually take out their wallet for the any of the $25 rock, pop, or jazz SuperHiRez.com DSD downloads?

Please indicate whether you have purchased or have plans to purchase any titles.

I am told it is a complete success and the numbers are excellent. I have downloaded many already and I am extremely happy. I will continue to do so.

Downloading is such a drag. This is what I'd pay for. Send me a drive with the files in them. I'm fine with a 50 album minimum or roughly a grand and then some at a time.

$1000 minimums, mailed hard drives? Jack that is fantasy stuff. :D

Downloading is really not a drag at all.

It is if you have the download speeds we have here man. I'm already on Fiber and it's STILL a drag. If I go one plan up, it costs so much, I might as well buy a plane ticket and pick up the files myself. I exaggerate a bit but you get my point :D

Fantasy? Why not? So I'm a niche within a niche. You'll still make the same money off me and all at once too.

I didn't know I could do that at the time. I ordered a couple of LPs instead. Hehe. :)

What's interesting is that almost every new LP I bought over the past couple of months comes with a card with a code to download the LP, or a CD enclosed. Unfortunately, most of the downloads are mp3's (although high bit-rate). But one of the LPs came with a 24bit/96kHz of the exact file that was used to cut the LP. I hadn't played the download until a couple of days ago, but dang! The high-rez sounded absolutely fabulous. It was one of the very rare occasions when I preferred the digital over the analog.

Sounds like I might have a customer when the Genesis music machine goes into production...... it will come with a terabyte solid-state drive, and we are negotiating for music that we can pre-load for interested customers......

Hmmm. A Gary K server for PC dummies who can't roll his own like me. I like!

What Album is that Gary? My music room redo is finally back on schedule so my state of analog depravation should be coming to an end soon.

Most of the DSD offerings I have seen have yet to whet my appetite. I prefer my DSD comes on SACD's at this time. Even the hi-res 24/96 and 24/192 files available are limited in their offerings. The catalogs are growing but I still struggle to find enough content to satisfy my quest for high-res music genres and artists I enjoy.

But I hear on ya internet connections. As a matter of fact, the reason CD sales have still been strong world wide outside of North America
and Europe is precisely that.

Live at the Happy Dog: EnsembleHD - comes with a 24/96 download

A great album to pick up: Live in San Francisco: Ry Cooder. Best of the last 10 new albums I bought.

Thanks Gary, I shall check those out!

Andre, wanna hear something really odd? It's easier for me to get new releases on LP here than quality CDs! I don't know where the local music stores get their CDs but in general those pressing plants should be rehabbed or shut down. US, UK, EU and JP imports are priced exorbitantly in the few specialty stores that are around. That's why I love my trips to Japan so much. In Hawaii there was a Borders near our house but now it's a big GAP outlet store. Slim pickin's at *gasp* Best Buy and *double gasp* Walmart! Hello Amazon. :(
