Anyone using the SGM Extreme with the latest models of MSB DACs?

Both Alon at Magico and Mike Lavigne have Select II DACS running with the Extreme.

Ahh OK. A friend recently heard another audiophile's system that featured one of the midrange MSB models who only streams digital. My friend was extremely impressed and was wondering if the Extreme could improve on the MSBs 'all in one box' streaming.

Forum members @Mobiusman and @V-Squared both have a MSB Reference, we have a customer in France using a MSB Premier, I have a hunch (but don't know if true) the Select is actually their best selling model as the fast majority of our MSB owning customers have one of those.

My guess would be MSB and Lampi comprise a large share jointly, then a lot of different brands. Maybe several DCS and CHP???

I have seen photos of Rockport Technologies Audio and their system: MSB Digital along with Gryphon Audio, Transparent Audio Opus and HRS racks. I have heard they are recently listening to CH but not sure if that is only power or also digital.

Just a thought, by I was wondering if it might make sense to implement on the Extreme a triple tap behavior which would disable the Startech SFP module / LAN traffic, and another triple tap would re-enable it? I have personally dropped the network switch battle, and on the other hand disabling / pulling out the optical patch whilst playing an album doesn’t require much effort and solves everything. It removes an edge that is small but makes the difference between a fully relaxed listening session and a somewhat fatiguing or tense experience, hard to convey.

@darkfrank no longer needed Telegärtner M12 Switch Gold once he's connecting an iPad to his Windows PC directly via an Ethernet cable, no more switches / routers etc. were affecting his system whatsoever and that also happened to lift a veil

He simply added the following Lightning adapter from Belkin, iPhone / iPad was put to sleep whenever he's done with music tracks navigation and then the status of his JCAT NIC was changed to "Network cable unplugged" afterwards

https://www.apple.com/shop/product/HMJU2ZM/A/belkin-ethernet-power-adapter-with-lightning-connector

@vhs should have done something similar with another USB-C adapter from Belkin

https://www.hiendy.com/hififorum/forum.php?mod=viewthread&tid=138859&page=3#pid3060324

FYI - it's available here

Status of Ethernet was changed to "Network cable unplugged" instead of "Disabled" and therefore it should behave more like this then?

While the diagram still shows my "baroque" stack of 3 switches, I have honestly stopped focusing on the network, and for max SQ, switch off the network after I hit play. This is the best SQ, every time!

In other words, the iOS App wouldn't lock itself out if I weren't mistaken.

Would be interesting to see what dacs constitute the top 5 for Extreme users...

There is a very clear top 3 Lampizator, MSB and the Chord Dave with SJ DC4 power supply which together probably makes up 50% of our customer base.

4th till 7th would go to the Aqua Formula, Totaldac, DCS, Esoteric, I'd estimate that to be about 25%

The remaining 25% is split over around 30 DAC models.

We are not in contact with all of our customers, a significant number sold through dealers with their final destination being unknown to us, so the list above is probably only representative for customers which are active online.

How about geographical distribution Emile?:)

35% USA/Canada
25% Asia
20% Europe
20% Rest of the world

Do you think that there is a reason for top 3 DACs user to go with Taiko Extreme?

Have you settled on your Chord Dave + SJ DC4 assessment?

Emile uses the totaldac in his demo room - am curious on this choice here Emile? keen on your thoughts and experience

Considering this is based on users who actively browse the internet it may simply be a matter of online presence / exposure and real user (forum) feedback / experience.

No I have not finished that assessment yet. @romaz shipped the SRC-DX USB-BNC bridge made by @dmance to me which just arrived an hour ago, and I have yet to dig into PGGB offline up sampling.

Which in turn leads to another possible explanation:

-MSB for the "ultimate" solid state DAC
-Lampizator for the "ultimate" tube DAC
-Chord Dave for those who like to tweak/tinker and have control over how their digital sounds

Another factor we have observed is that both MSB and Lampizator owners do on average have considerable DXD/DSD libraries and would therefor consider 24/384 and Native (not dop) DSD256 playback capability mandatory. In that case, to be future proof, you might even feel PCM 768 and DSD512 support to be important. Chord Dave owners consider 32/768 playback to be mandatory, so they would upsample their libraries in realtime or offline by using HQPlayer or PGGB software. PCM768 / native DSD512 capability narrows down your options considerably.
