The [coffee snobs'] espresso thread

Yes, Nero is exceptional. Local micro-chains are thriving exactly because the mega-chains are so average if not outright bad.

Thomas Hammer is ok for a growing chain. I don’t know if they are in very many places.

My brother went into a coffee shop with his now wife, in Bellingham WA. When approaching the order/bar thing the barista woman sorta yelled to the other workers, “we got some cookie cutters.” They obviously haven’t been back since. What I’m impressed by is that my brother didn’t do anything... I would have made their straws rain, or something.

But, often hipsters places have the best coffee, if they aren’t jerks.

That day went to a coffee shop that's opened here that serves a 15 quid coffee. They were sold out of that so had a 9 quid one and a 3.50 one.

They took 15 mins to make them in front of us.

Otherwise nothing special

Yeah.

I think they taste better. But I drink black.

Not everyone knows what they’re doing with them.

Yes black

So far Espresso Vivace Dolce makes the best crema of any other I have tried, and the taste is exceptional; close second is 49th Parallel Old School Espresso. While most beans de-gas within 3 days, Vivace took a whole week+

The shots are really good, like this one this morning

Thanks, but I don't make fancy espresso at home - i actually use a Nespresso lol.

You're going to have to surrender your hedonist club card, sorry. ;)

Starbucks was never average. They keep consistent taste by making charcoal. It works fine when you want to add some coffee to you sugar and cream.
Kind of feel the same way about Jack Daniels. Barrels are severely over cooked, Kingsford flavored if you will.

I used to be a coffee junkie but stopped a number of years ago, hung up the grinder, when I make a cup now its Original Donut Shop dark in the Kuerig and some quiet time in the park watching the day start and the dog poop.

Working for the Italians there are espresso machines everywhere and I actually find it revolting. I don't see the point of making a shot of coffee then filling the rest of the cup up with candy. I like the flavor of coffee, I never add anything to it, same with my bourbon.

So tell me, do you guys drink it straight or kill it with candy?

I do have a Nespresso but haven't tried it yet. Keith what pod do you use?

Straight 99% of the time. An alternative milk latte on rare occasion.

100% straight

From the heathens among us that like a little candy once in a while. What’s your favorite brand syrup and flavor?
