The Noob Linearity factor

In which way?
A trick question ?
I know that it is not possible to I correctly evaluate the sound from a clip on YouTube, but I know everything you see there, I know those electronics well, they are high quality. As for the 817's, I love them, they will probably be my next speakers.

Not really, Al M is well known for derailing threads with anti video rants for the past 5 years

And you like to derail threads with crappy videos.

Many years ago, I had a colleague who ate Doritos for lunch. This was clearly wrong and dangerous to her health, I thought. Yet, she was full of energy and ran marathons successfully. Point is: it worked for her. Larger point: she never suggested that everyone else eat Doritos for lunch.

PYP, That is a great story, and you make an excellent point.

My question is whether or not anyone went up to her asking if she/he/they could have one, all the while telling her that her diet was wrong and dangerous to her health (in their opinion, of course). Did anyone approach her to say "crappy chips" to disrupt her peaceful break each and every time she ate her lunch, year after year?

Strangely, no one asked for one (maybe because the bag was too small?). But no one told her it was wrong either. Everyone did their thing and it worked just fine.

Thanks to some of the WBF threads, when I enjoy music at home I sometimes think: I hope it is OK to enjoy music this much with crappy cones in a box speakers, class D amps and no preamp.

Yes, it's totally and absolutely OK, despite the juvenile bullying by some on WBF.

Class D amps can actually sound fantastic and, yes, natural. I have heard two great ones at T.H.E. Show in Southern California in May. The technology has matured tremendously the last few years. I have to admit, I was surprised after having heard not so good class D sound in the past, which more fit the stereotype.

I say this as a tube amp guy. Of course, I'm gettng killed here because it's not SET and high power.

sorry this in no way infers it worked for her. Measure her lipid profile, then let us know if it worked for her. And what rest of diet is

When I ate unhealthy food, no one said a word. When I drank a Big Gulp, no one said a word. (My friend Joe Pitman) died from Diabetes. He said he drank way to much soda. Anyhow, as soon as I changed my diet to Paleo, everyone came out the woodwork to tell me to be cautious. I was going to kill myself.

Sorry, no good way to tie to audio.

I am perfectly happy to tell people their diet is horrible and going to kill them. Don't eat Doritos or any other fried in seed oil food. Avoid all added sugar food. Avoid Carbohydrates found in bread and pasta. If your 80 and ate that crap, your as lucky as the fool smoking cigarettes who grew old. Our general health as a nation is clear the food we eat is not good at all.

Of course you are free to enjoy your music on any system you choose, PYP. I do not think people are dictating what others should buy. Everyone has a different approach and there are a lot of options out there. No need to worry. Now if you think your cones are actually "crappy", and it is not just a joke, then I do not know what to suggest. I am certainly not going to tell you what to buy. That is up to you.

I was looking for the sarcastic emoji when I wrote about wondering if it was OK to enjoy music with my setup. I like reading about personal preferences and especially how people ended up with the setups they have. But I don't see these as proscriptive.

When anything becomes too dogmatic, for me it loses life and enjoyment. Life tells me there are many paths to any goal and that audio cannot be different; therefore, there is no best for everyone and no one way to do anything. And certainty can lead to premature aging, no matter what you eat.

at that age, a very active person can get away with a lousy diet and still have low cholesterol.

believe it or not, submitting a lipid profile before taking part in lunch time banter was not a requirement. This was a very long time ago, obviously.

I totally got that your remark was sarcastic. I left out the emoji for the last sentence in my reply too.

Couldn't agree more.

paleo is fine except for one problem, they avoid grains/lentils. There is not enough fiber. Just from low starch veggies isn’t enough. Fiber is good in keeping your LDL low. You can do your own research on fiber and confirm with a doctor specialised in cholesterol, but I would add barley, bulgur, beans, chickpeas, lentils, oats, quinoa to paleo. Fiber absorbs LDL and gets it out of your body

and exercise increases HDL (can take months to do so).

More relevantly to this thread, music sounds better after a good workout. NOTE: According to many studies acute exercise boosts endocannabinoid levels.

Alcohol and Marijuana also increase musical enjoyment. But I don't think they are good for you. Of course that is debatable.

do you consider them to be a tweak? :)

Ked would be so proud. My wife wanted a bok choy soup. Some bone broth, pork and greens . I added some barley.

Better sound quality - never, always sounds worse
