Tripoint troy signature grounding device

Hi Audiocrack,
I ground the Walker on the back plate on the grounding post where the interconnect plug-ins are. They are not to many places to ground on the Walker.
Where do you ground the Walker.
The Tripoint products are very advanced and are needed to achieve ultimate nirvana. The Troy SE and Thor Se and new Emperor are very serious products not tweeks, and have to be treated as so.

Robert

Well I have not actually grounded the Walker turntable yet in my Genesis set up. Have been working hard with the Tidal set up lately including breaking in my relatively new Taralabs grandmaster cables. In the latter system I did ground my Forsell/Koetsu coral stone combo though. Nice, very nice though I have not yet tried the Thor se grounding cable with this turntable. The emperor will come with two Thor se grounding cables in the beginning of november. Did you compare the Thor se grounding and the 'regular' Tripoint grounding cable on your Walker? If so, could you comment on what you experienced?

Stillpoints has announced in another thread they are distributing Entreq in the US. So those in the US who wish to try grounding, you've now got 2 leading names...Tripoint and Entreq to try and enjoy. Let the games begin.

Choice is good and Entreq seems like a solid entry level solution. What happens when you remove the Troy from your system? Do you share Audiocrack's sentiments?

I have auditioned both the Entreq Atlantis system and the Tripoint system and had to remove them 3 times from my system...each time it is a real let down. In fact, the 3rd time was an accident. We were installing some new shielding, and accidentially disconnected the Tripoint. We hooked it back up and then sat down to listen to this new shielding...and i had forgotten just how much difference the Tripoint makes.

I took the new shielding out thinking it was terrible...and was more than a little shocked to find my system was still terrible. In fact, i thought we had done something else wrong while we were installing...it was only after about 25 minutes when the Tripoint grounding started to settle in again i got a little relieved. And 3 hours later i was well back to the natural tonal qualities, speed, detail and simply lack of mechanical sounding distortion. whew!

It aint coming out again...say no more!

the other thing i would say about Entreq is that it is not Entry level per se, although the firm is very value-oriented on pricing. Their stuff is top notch, and i know people with SOTA systems who use Entreq...and i am actually reading about more and more over-the-top systems which use BOTH Tripoint (chassis) and Entreq Atlantis (signal)...on the basis that (to my ear and a few fellow audiophiles who've auditioned both and in one case own both) Tripoints defining characteristic is incredible speed/detail/clarity via reduction in distortion where the Entreq's defining characteristic is a remarkably natural midrange character and propulsive bass rhythm via reduction in distortion.

Hi Geardaddy,

Hope that helps a bit...if you have any other specific questions, ask away and i will help if i can. I know this stuff is a bit esoteric for some, and also difficult to audition. fortunately with both firms now distributing in the US, that is getting somewhat easier, and WBF members here who have tried it are growing which is also nice and hopefully helpful to other members.

Not esoteric at all. What power conditioners have you tried other than your isolator? I heard an after hours demo of Miguel's previous generation of Troy and PC, and it was profound. The PC even more so than the Troy.

I am glad grounding is getting the attention it deserves (despite counterpoints from some of the engineering crowd). No longer a handmaiden to electronics. In my audio universe, I stratify things as follows: room (Starsound energy room)>speaker (Mosaic Audio Illuminations)>mechanical (Sistrum stands) and electrical grounding (Ionic ground + Tripoint pending) and power conditioning (Mosaic Audio Suspension Bridge) >electronics (Auralic Aries/Lampizator L7/Viva Solista). I know a lot of folks in Europe and Asia struggle with the room department due to space limitations, but NOTHING beats a properly engineered room. There is no end to this hobby.

I used to have a Nordost Thor which i accidentally melted when i hooked my Gryphon to it because the dealer said it would be able to handle it. Fortunately, he took it back and apologized...we went for a TA Power Isolator, and i obviously dont put my Gryphon through it any way.

I think the Power Isolator is good...i felt the Thor was perhaps a touch better in my system...but once i added the Nordost QX4 to the TA Power Isolator, i am very happy. Nevertheless, i strongly suspect there is much better out there than the Power Isolator. There is much talk on WBF about Shunyata's latest Triton/Tryphon setup, and i suspect Tripoint's power conditioner is also excellent. I have heard it in Hong Kong, but i could not say what was what as it was a new system to me, and we only swapped out a couple minor bits during the audition.

What have you auditioned and what do you like? i need 8 outlets in the power conditioner plus 1 separate plug in the wall for the Gryphon.

Agree! i have learned a lot in the last 18 months about mechanical isolation, grounding, and more recently emi/rfi shielding. Smokes! it completely changes a system...and yet (if you are super careful) the natural 'voicing' of the system DOES NOT CHANGE...but boy does it sound FAR less mechanical. And details really emerge, words in choral music and deep house/electronica become understandable.

In fact, thats a great test of clarity...listen to the same choral (only from time to time so you dont figure out what they're saying)...and see if the new component/shielding, etc helps make it more understandable. I have found tremendous benefit in doing this as its a very simple test.

Which Tripoint Power Conditioner was this? the Spartan or Orion?

The Demo involved a standard previous generation Troy and an Orion. I have also heard the Shunyata stuff albeit in a show setting. I own the Mosaic Audio Suspension bridge. My dedicated room has dedicated lines along with an ionic grounding system. I will getting a Tripoint Troy signature once I am able to sneak it by the wife.

I follow the Audioexotics threads and Asian audiophile community threads closely as they are typically on the cutting edge. I am rather surprised to hear that the Tripoint crowd there was using Entreq also. That is news to me (and Miguel). Furthermore, all the Tripoint folks that I have corresponded with say the grounding wires make a huge difference. I am also a little surprised you mix the stock Tripoint wire with stuff from Entreq. It looks like you have some more experimenting to do!

A lot of US philes (myself included) are lazy and mistakenly think that an "all out assault system" simply means buying a big pair of thunderturkey speakers with an automotive paint finish. Congratulations to people like you and Audiocrack who are pushing the limits. Keep up the good work....

Great stuff.
1. How highly do you rate the Orion based on your audition? i understand it may be a preliminary view since you may not have brought it home for a serious shoot-out.

2. Good luck with the Troy Sig...its small enough you might just sneak it past her!

3. I do use Entreq Atlantis Cable and Entreq Receivus attached to Entreq grounding cables...hooked up to my Tripoint Troy Sig. HOWEVER, i never mix the cables when i attach to the binding posts on the back of the Troy...the sound gets 'confused', blurry and messy. But as long as the Entreq and Tripoint grounding cables are on separate binding posts on the back of the Troy...it works really well. Would totally separate Entreq and Tripoint systems be even better? Probably...as i have been told by one friend who actually does that...i believe him but i will not go there.

And thanks...we're all on this forum because we enjoy pushing things a bit to the extreme!

Thanks again for any insight into the Orion...i heard one of the early Spartans when they first came out. But again, had no reference point in that system at the time.

The conditioner being used prior to placement of the Orion was a highly regarded Swiss affair (Weizhi PSA-6). The difference was night and day. I have a photographic and/or sonic memory, and we played a track from The Yamamoto Trio's "What A Wonderful Trio" album, Smoke Gets Into Your Eyes. In the introductory portion of that song, there are a few single key strikes which are quite powerful. With the Weizhi in place, these notes were muted. When the Orion was added, there was a power and presence and weight that was reminiscent of live music. It was a night and day difference. A friend of mine (Gary "Glory" Anderson) who was at Axpona with me turned around and asked "Is anyone here deaf"? It was similar feedback to what happened recently in Hong Kong in terms of a plausible and "live" sound. No small feat.

Does that answer your question?

Every system is different and will respond differently to grounding and whatnot. Comparisons of Troy and Entreq performed by others have demonstrated a night and day difference in terms of performance. Your recent findings are somewhat of an outlier which I find curious. Your original review (2013) was more in line with this. Now, you describe them as co-equals?

No, sorry for any confusion. i preferred Tripoint Troy Signature in my system to the Entreq Atlantis. But equally, i personally did not find Entreq to be entry level in comparison to Tripoint either. If one is 4-star, the other is 5-6 star. Neither was 2-3 star. Additionally, as with most things audio...there were characteristics of Entreq i like a lot...its midrange density and natural purity as well as the propulsiveness of its bass...hence, why i use the Entreq Atlantis signal grounding cables with my Tripoint Troy+Tripoint chassis grounding cables, along with the Receivus+Entreq grounding cables. Hope that's a bit more clear.

Audiocrack, it sounds like you are in for a wild ride with the Emperor. It created quite the impression at the recent Hong Kong Audio show: http://audioexotics.hk/index.php?option=com_simplestforum&view=postlist&forumId=1&parentId=11635

A new benchmark for show sound (which seems to be more typically lackluster).

Geardaddy, taking the emperor investment into account I sure hope it will be an interesting as well as very rewarding ride. I trust Miguels skills and ears and admire his devotion to music. I believe Miguel is the most passionate music lover and audiophile I have met in my audio journey so far.

Geardaddy, you say that the Weizhi PSA-6 is a Swiss affair. I had one and thought the US importer said it was from Hong Kong. At any rate I was shocked that being just a power strip, it improved the sound. At any rate the High Fidelity Waveguide power center was significantly better than the Weizhi.

I have a Tripoint Troy Signature and very much enjoyed reading accounts on the AE Show. I wish I had been there.
