Uber High End Streamer Wars: Taiko vs. Wadax. What are the Design and Subjective Sonic Differences between the 2?

When I like a room in the atrium I usually come back for several times and stay in this room much longer.
This was not typically the case in Wadax rooms.
I wasn’t at Munich 24 but Wadax was probably the brand I was most interested in hearing in 23. Like you I came away disappointed, Wadax also disappointed in the first couple of show systems I heard in the UK. I’ve since heard the full Ref streaming/dac solution sound sublime. As usual best to reserve judgement until a product is heard in a known/better setting! Those I know who heard Olympus at Munich 24 weren’t blown away, looking forward to hearing it myself one of these days. I’m sure it’ll be fabulous

I know I have said this many times but really getting the opportunity to seriously listen to anything in a show setting is truly stretching it. Shows are good to see, sniff and kick the tires, get an idea what is out there , how it looks and feels and get a sampling of its sound. Serious products of which I consider Wadax one need to be heard in a well set up mature system that has been dialed and broken in . The show rooms are POPUPS. They have limited time, mediocre at best electricity, internet and power and usually a smorgasboard of delights stuck together to try to make a system. Many of these arrangement are based on dollars and opportunities rather than on a very serious reason for them to be together. If they are usually together the other factors are still there. In Munich they get a couple of days to set up the rooms. Those rooms however are not at all made for sound, they are glass and metal . The rooms in US shows range from mediocre to terrible as they are hotel rooms and not designed for sound. THis is not sour grapes its just reality. Those who want a serious deep drive into the passion and soul of these products wont get it at a show. They are fun, informative, a place where the Industry meets, you can hang with others of the same interest, meet you favorite designers etc but they are not the end all for sound.
THe truth is that virtually nothing gets sold at shows. Those who want something are almost always going to hear it in the way that makes the most sense. This is in thier dealers showroom or perhaps their own home.
Last thought the more that is expected is IMO inversely related to how hard it is to do it. I mena the better the gear the more likely is that you wont truly hear the capabilities. Very large systems truly take a lot of time and resources there is no easy path. I consider it building a formula 1 race car, it takes everything and anything you don't address you will haunt you eventually. All great systems are works in progress, I know mine is.

Elliot, all good points for a different thread.

you qualified Mike and made it happen! He’s better off for it. Happier!

What is your criteria to qualify customers?

Furthermore, I have heard a number of taiko extreme systems, and many septuagenarians were left embarrassed when the Jays Chinese transport destroyed their streaming. $30k piece of computer jewelry …

I’m sure smart dcs dealers will be happy to qualify people and do the compares…

If no compares, people just buying expensive stuff for no reason other than to satisfy them selves. Nothing wrong with that despite Oligarch Audio comments from imbeciles , who don’t appreciate / hate western civilization, like Steven stone and moron herb reichart.

I have a feeling guys who are truly passionate will find a way to be like Mike.

Furthermore, surely you, as an experienced dealer would benefit from more information in the ether - no matter how imperfect it may, rather than less, when wadax is compared to your competitors.
Good Luck!

PS. Any good pizza spots in Florida? Sicilian Oven is not bad , but surely there’s better

I think I just saw a thread pop - up for a dcs Varese compare

Big $$$$$$$$$$$ to be made

I wouldn't expect it. that's why Steven Stone and Herb Rechert are fukking idiots who hate western civilization and free market capitalism.

We are all enjoying the luxuries of this hobby thanks to those philosophies, including those imbeciles.
we are at the hands of the one man survey's in high end audio and lately here on WBF. It seems that discussion, facts, comparisons, and just plain serious listening has been pushed aside to personal commericals for products. Is this shillism? Are there other factors in play. Are platitudes and one person's saying "this is the best" with no actual reason other than they listened to something and it was better than what they had, and in most cases what they had wasn't even a contender for state of the art.
Where have you gone Joe Dimaggio ? Our "forum" turns its lonely eyes to you. Simon and Garfunkel aside what happened to serious debate, serious comparison, serious listening to me I see a lot of self promotion especially lately.
Caesar even when I disagree, come to it with some force and some reality and lets talk. Its not I liked it therefore its the best and thats it.

This type of questions are already boring for me.
There isn't anybody in this forum who can listen Wadax Ref, DCS Varèse and Taiko Olympus head to head in his own system.

Ceasar, since you’ve gone to the trouble to declare Herb Reichert an “imbecile”, why don’t you share with us your well thought out reasoning behind this public slur?
Aren’t you a taiko owner? You paid $30k for a computer? Or did you upgrade to the $100k taiko computer ? That’s oligarch audio! You could have gotten a raspberry pi for $20! Hello!?!?

Even if you were to be "blown away" by a demo, could you attribute the result to the source? At best you could perhaps conclude that the source is not a bottleneck...

Once again, it’s obvious all you try to do here is flame. Do you even own any audio equipment? I don’t see anything listed under your profile. Maybe you can share your superior choices.

And Again, to the point, how about backing up why you are calling Herb R. an “imbecile.“

Why not? 2 healthy guys can easily lift pretty much any digitial piece of gear. There is a new thread where a dealer brought over the Varese to compare vs. MSB to a qualified prospect.

Why do guys choose to limit themselves and settle?

caesar fishing for a conflict.   i guess this officially starts the new 2025 Audiophile Year.

Happy New Year caesar!
You hit the nail on the head Mike.

bringing the Varese over to compare it to a previous good but 10 year old MSB model and good but not top server would be something we will see a lot. normal for owners wanting to go to the next level. does not really tell us what we don't know. there should be a large apparent delta in a mature system. surprise if there is not.

however; bringing the Varese (or Wadax Level 4) to someone who just took a step to the very top rung "already" is a different thing. for dealers to do that they would need to expect a sale. it will be rare for it to actually happen, and then even rarer for us to find out about it with lots of details. not that many Varese Stack or Wadax Level 4 owners and that are forum posters. just the way these things go.

If you happen to be a person fortunate enough to own any of the components mentioned in this thread (and many that are not) that is a wonderful position to be in and no doubt you are experiencing great joy. A respectful, spirited discussion is interesting and maybe instructive. The shart stirring that comes from a guy who seems to have an abundance of time on his hands and relishes farking with folks is clearly a waste of precious time...

if my tape decks are gone the Massif Audio rack might work pretty good for that. however; as Kedar can attest to i don't own a coffee pot. only guy in Seattle without one.

In Munich I was never impressed by Wadax.
Odd, I heard the Wadax Reference Dac in the main room at Ultimate Audio in Lisbon, a truly Reference product, sadly unobtainium for me, other DAC's that I have heard and liked include Playback Designs, APL and my own Aqua Acoustic La Scala, which punches well for the value

first he would have to have one. The review is in a dealers showroom it was not his. BTW to all these so called shoot outs don't truly happen often in the top levels of high end. Why you ask? well they don't really exist in the same places. Everyone wanted me to take my WADAX everywhere so they could hear it, not really to buy it, just to hear it. Good for them I guess but nothing in it for me.
If you remember the Popeye character WHimpy who always wanted the cheeseburger to day with the promise of payment in the future.. This is not a great business model. My clients who are serious would always get the opportunity if the logistics were possible .

Caesar, Just a question . What would this comparision be worth? There is a lot of service expected here but no costs.
What should the expectation for both parties be in this scenario?
