Uber High End Streamer Wars: Taiko vs. Wadax. What are the Design and Subjective Sonic Differences between the 2?

first he would have to have one. The review is in a dealers showroom it was not his. BTW to all these so called shoot outs don't truly happen often in the top levels of high end. Why you ask? well they don't really exist in the same places. Everyone wanted me to take my WADAX everywhere so they could hear it, not really to buy it, just to hear it. Good for them I guess but nothing in it for me.
If you remember the Popeye character WHimpy who always wanted the cheeseburger to day with the promise of payment in the future.. This is not a great business model. My clients who are serious would always get the opportunity if the logistics were possible .
I think Lee could make it happen if he wanted, question is does he dare ? :p

Perhaps he could but I have my doubts since its the man that paid for it that has to agree. I would think that he would need to be convinced that there was something in it for him other than a thank you.

Is that Pedro's place?
I don't know a Pedro at UA in Lisbon, one of the owners "Miguel Carvalho" got me on the serious audio path, he has an amazing shop with 4 well treated demo rooms and carries an eclectic range of brands from novice entry level to systems that can cost well over a million euros...he and his staff are very approachable and extremely experienced in high end audio...

Cheers

how many actual Varese Stack reviews (not at-dealer impressions) are there going to be? probably one in the U.S (English), maybe one in Europe, one in Asia (Chinese)......at most. already in process i'd guess. the manufacturer will want perceived quality, not quantity.

does Lee fit into that picture? and i'm not picking on him at all, just that the food chain is pretty limited for that assignment.

OTOH there will be lots of fluff/marketing pieces. impressions from shows, etc.

Mike , I think there are more as there are more with Wadax and MSB for that matter.
I will; give you an idea and I will make my part of this happen.
Let someone rent a space, hire an independant to set the system up 9 like Stirling or Jim, choose the system from those who will be PAID attendees and have a battle of the DACS.
These things are always dropped in someones lap that it has no cost. It will be a pay for view ( hear) event.
How many would pay to see it?

If DCS want the laurels of best digital, they could make a Varese stack available for a shoot out, Lee is obviously their man for the job. And you have a system that could highlight the differences. :)

there was NEVER a formal MSB Select II review prior to when i sold mine in 2022. the MSB Select II was introduced in 2014. show me a review prior to 2021.

Wadax did change that but the Company Wadax was relatively unknown and so they had to pump things a bit.

you are talking about shootouts, i am talking about actual extended reviews. they are different beasts.

it will never happen. consider that dealers want customers to go to them to experience the Varese. they are the customer of dCS. a public shootout undermines their value. it becomes a commodity.

Sorry I thought you were talking about places that actually had this gear, not reviews. The reviews again don't mean that the reviewer has heard any other than the one he reviews which is helpful at some level but not at others.
Reviews dont seem to satisfy the comparisons that this group is looking for.

you mean the dreamers that don't buy $300k+ digital front ends? but certainly want the proof about them. human nature at work. they should go convince a dealer to demo it in their system. the dealer can make the call. just like you do. show me the do, ra, me.

i think the manufacturer likes the fawning and attention....just spell the name right.

and yes i know i will take some grief for my elitist response. i am guilty again of it.

Great discussion, guys. Thank you. The feelings of the Taiko herd have been hurt, obviously, as we are getting a lot of personal comments here.

P.S. Sensitive Taiko herd guys - IGNORE IS YOUR FRIEND. Go enjoy your system or jump into the orgiastic thread - it will make you feel great!

didn't Valin review MSB and put them on the map?

MSB Ref in 2018, not Select II.

MSB had been on the map for more than a decade prior. for transports and dacs with upgrade paths. the Select II was supposed to be the upgrade proof dac, 10 years of upgrades at cost and warranty included. which might have held back progress a little to higher performance.....as they would have had to offer low cost upgrades to Select II owners. they had to re-invent their model line up to move forward.

still my MSB Select II was and still is a really fine product and i got great support.

You may be right. But I am willing to bet big money that his review greatly broadened MSB's exposure, outside of the small niches of hard core fans

i doubt it. no reason for them to be threatened by the Varese or Wadax Level 4. the idea that the new Taiko and XXX dac is going to be in a shootout with these others is only positive. they are playing with house money. they can't lose either way.

only in your mind is that an issue.

did his MSB Ref review help MSB in 2018? i'd agree it did not hurt, but other 'buzz' was much more at play than his review IMHO. maybe in the brick and mortar world of hifi dealers it was a deal maker here and there, but not much in the bigger picture.

you could ask Vince, the National Sales Manager, if it mattered much. it was a bit after the fact for that line up.

I agree that Taiko is likely the weakest of the bunch, and if it weren't for orgiastic threads here, where would they be? ... My reference was to 3-4 Taiko guys, above, making personal comments about me rather staying on topic.

And do you think the Taiko DAC can hold a candle to MSB, dCS, or Lampizator?
