WestminsterLab Re-imagining Amplification

Great to hear all these positive comments on the improvements to the original Quest and I feel that I may have missed on what these tweaks actually were. Can I please request a link or quick summary to what I can do to improve the performance of my quest. I noticed that grounding helped me with my imaging.
Hello Arif, I will send you a private message regarding to get your Quest upgraded.

Hi Keith, It's the middle of the night in HK, so let me offer some preliminary insight. As some know, Angus and Felix have been developing a new product: an integrated amplifier. During that development, they decided that improving the existing volume control circuit would be an area of potential sonic improvement, and their discovery led them to incorporate those advancements into the Quest immediately. In our opinion and our customers' opinion, the upgrade has been quite consequential.

The factory has now updated all Quest owners' pre-amplifiers to V2 specification at no charge. While not a sonic improvement, Westminster also took the opportunity to improve the appearance and functionality of the Quest remote control. Existing Quest owners will soon find a replacement remote in their mailboxes, also at no charge, courtesy of Hear This.

I'm sure Angus will have more to say; however, I hope this information will prove helpful.

Gary...any more insights on the integrated? Timeline? Thanks

...yeah, I went Full-Westy. I really liked the sound here, and the form-factor is a big-little bonus.

I had six demos here with different friends over a couple of weeks, and folks really liked the sound. A lot. As did I. A lot.

And BIG thanks to Gary Leeds who pushed this demo through the FedEx snake to get the gear here and running fine. Modern audio gear and old-fashioned customer service. I didn't know what hit me! A genuine pleasure.

Now if only Jacky! could hook this stuff up.

-WestminsterLab Class A topology

-three inputs
- two expansion bays accepting, for example, all Westminster phono card options
- large display similar to the Quest
- ability to dock with Rei amplifier for bi-amplification

More details as things progress.

Jacky! on top of the world with Westminster Lab in the house.
Jacky Barkus also has great taste in art… just hope he doesn’t get too excited by all the new boxes landing and mark his territory up there  Many congrats on the lovely new gear.

...I had no complaints re: the original remote, but the new version is very nice. Feels solid and for me, the "form factor" is good. Button detents are firm. On/off at the very top is easy to feel even in dim light, and will be recognizable while slowly fading into submission from music and adult hydration strategies.

I have owned my Quest for about two years and have always thought that it, combined with the REIs, is the finest system core I have owned in six decades, immersed in our hobby. This includes amplification selling for a multiple of what the WestminsterLab pieces do.

As an early customer for WestminsterLab, when Gary and Angus told me about the Quest V2 upgrade, I wondered how they would improve upon an already robust design. Having a clear sense of Angus’ design approach, I expected an even blacker background and some additional refinement. Instead, I received a significant step forward, elevating my system to a level I had never experienced. Candidly, it was hard for my mind to unravel what I was experiencing at first. It was appealing, for sure, but also complex.

As I adjusted more to the changes, I progressively realized the magnitude of the sonic improvement was way more than a volume control improvement. It was a significant step forward on the WestminsterLab sonic signature. Black backgrounds and instruments surrounded even deeper into their own space, inner detail, texture, and even dynamics further enhanced. In addition to the Quest and Rei monoblocks, I also own Von Schweikert Ultra 9 loudspeakers, a Lampizator Horizon, Ars Machinae TT, My Sonic Signature Platinum, and WestminsterLab Monologue phono stage, tied together with MasterBuilt and WestminsterLab top-of-the-line cabling.

To my ear, I now possess the cleanest and sonically pleasing sound I have heard, regardless of price!! While I have always believed a pre-amplifier to be the heart of a high-end system with the update, I know for sure. The Quest V2 has once again pushed my sense of what is possible. The bottom line is I am a “happy camper and, at long last, approaching my end-game system.

PS I have one more surprise coming in November and will be sure to report back.

Hi All, Angus and I are excited to announce our new partners in Canada, Mr. Ian Andreson of Northstar Audio and Mr. Matt Thomas of Hearken Audio, both based in Toronto. This weekend, we are demonstrating WestminsterLab Rei and Quest, the venerable Von Schweikert Audio VR-55 Special Edition loudspeakers with Playback Designs Dream DAC, and a modified Technics 1500 r2r with custom outboard tube playback electronics.

Our thanks to Messrs. Anderson and Thomas! If anyone in Canada is interested in WestminsterLab and Von Scheikert loudspeakers, please PM me to introduce you to these dedicated and passionate men.

Suite 819 Capital Audio Festival November 8-10 Rockville, MD

Following our first show in Canada at TAS in October, we are preparing for The Capital Audio Festival. Now in our third year in the NA market and our seventh show appearance, the Westminsterlab team is more excited about this one than any preceding one. Thanks to our customers and supporters, as well as the innovation and dedication of Angus and Felix, we are now a known brand with products that can run with the best the US, Switzerland, Germany, and the rest of the world have to offer.

This year's show will feature two notable debuts connected to WestminsterLab electronics. The first is the North American show scene Premiere of the Lampizator Horizon 360. This low 60s priced DAC promises once again to establish Lampizator at the pantheon of digital converters, even when compared to the elaborate and significantly more costly players - and yes, still only one box! Lukaz, Fred, and Rob will be on hand to demo the 360 and tell you more about their latest product.

Next, Damon Von Schweikert will introduce their most significant new product of the last decade, the VR-30 full-range floor-stander. A primary reason is the VR.30 teases near Ultra series performance, a relatively small footprint, and a mid-50k price point. Borrowing technology from the nearly 200k, the VR-30 uses three of the latest composite bass drivers from Accuton and VSA's signature ceramic midrange, beryllium tweeter, and rear-mounted ribbon ambient arrange. The newest version of the Foundation Hybrid bass amplification suite actively powers the woofers. No DSP is used, and the crossover uses only the best passive components. Sensitivity is 87.5db one-watt/one-meter. Measured bandwidth is +- 3db from 22hz-40hz.

To power the VR.30s, we will use the Quest V2 preamplifier and a bridged pair of Reis, delivering nearly 800 watts of Class A power into the 30s four-ohm load. A mixture of WestminsterLab and MasterBuild cables will tie things together.

To our friends and fellow WBF members, please come by the Suite to look, listen, and say hello.

I'm looking forward to hearing this exciting system, and to interviewing Damon! I know how much I'm enjoying 200 watts of REI at my place, so 800 watts should be astounding!

The VR30 seems like a lot of technology packed into a domestic friendly size.
