WestminsterLab Re-imagining Amplification

After a break in production to nail down the details of Westminster's forthcoming (Q2) integrated amplifier, Angus and Felix are back at it, fulfilling orders for Reis, Quests, and Monologue phono stages. Below is a batch of amplifier channels being readied to complete Rei amplifiers bound for the US, Canada, Germany, and France.

As many know, space is at a premium in HK. WLs production facility is best described as a model of efficiency and how one refers to the Rei amplifiers - small and mighty!

Thanks for the update Gary ! We are expecting delivery of REIs in France by end of Jan/very early Feb we were told by Marc, so good to know the game is on especially since the WML frenzy is quickly building up here in France (at least in the South as much as I can tell ) !! I know for sure that two of us decided to sell what we have and switch to REIs and a third one of us is 99% down the decision making journey as we speak, only in a matter of weeks since Marc & Dominique started offering sampling. So very strong momentum only built on the SQ, footprint, the fact that Steve can carry two with a smile on his face , etc. If you have any additional info or Angus can confirm directly or via Marc that we will receive our toys sooner than later, it would be much appreciated. Thanks a lot!

As my friend ( and neighbor) Fabien said, we are both impatient that Marc Loubeau from Prestige Audio Diffusion receive our Rei

I'll leave deliveries to Marc, but I can say that the amplifiers are sublime on Alysvox and Clarysis ribbons, as we have a number of them stateside. Be patient; it will be well worth the wait.

I’ve had both in my house and yes the bridged set is outstanding. Yet having said that if you never hear the bridged version you’ll be eternally happy. It’s a killer amplifier.

Steve, a nice nod coming from my single-end tube amplifier-listening friend! Now, if Angus could only figure out how to make the Reis look like the Lamms with the lights down. AI perhaps:)

Gary, as you and I have talked, If I were 20 years younger and/or starting a system, there is no doubt in my mind it would be built around REI. I have never been disappointed in any listening session in any venue where they have been shown Angus is an absolute genius. In my room and my system with my $150K tube amp they proved to be stiff competition. Kudos to Angus and to you for bringing this great product to the audio world

...running with the top down (still in testing mode)! Olympus and WestminsterLab! I know, I know. Volume at 18? Sweetie is working upstairs. Science never sleeps. Very fine tunes over here, fellas.

We appreciate those kind words, Steve. And you know I love tubes too, especially when it says Lampi on the chassis:)

...we don't need no stinkin' Lamms!
Mark, it would be a veritable heat wave in your lower-level listening room. What is the temperature in Rochester tonight:)

...oh man, I was fantasizing about who in town could scan that lid and reproduce a clear version. I would love that...if the cooling/heat-transfer aspect received an okie-dokie from Emile! It looks awesome.

maybe add a few flashing lights too. Many rotations around the sun ago, I got a peek at an early model of a huge parallel computer built by a mad genius for the purposes of digitizing a library collection (and housed in a large room that was so cold it made my teeth chatter). Had all these flashing lights. When I asked what the function was, he said: Oh, I added those because I thought they looked cool. Sorry for the digression. Just one of those moments in life when one realizes zany = good. Hope you get your clear top. A couple of perfectly symmetrical venting holes and you should be good to go! The whole setup has just the right balance of science project meets musical enjoyment.

MB, I'll get back to the Reis, but before I do, here is someone who can make such a dustcover for your Olympus, presuming you are serious:)

Mr. Norm Cones

FYI, we were at Mobiusmans' place in New Jersey today, doing the final tuning of his new VS speakers and Shockwave subs and adding a second set of Reis in bridged mode to his system. I expect him to weigh in on the difference once he measures what he is experiencing.

I have been a Westminster owne (Quest preamp, Monologue phone stage and augmented power supply and a pair of REI mono bloc amps.best audio electronics I have ever owned.. These electronic shined on my new speakers and the rest of my top notch audio sytem

Ater 65 years of searching for my Bucket list system, I am approaching my final system by upgrading my speakers with VSA Ultra 7's because I wanted their twin ribbon tweeters and their new foundation amps, but when I got my new speakers, I also got 2 of VSA's new 12"Shockwave subs because they have been redesigned and could no longer live with th JL's. The new Shockwaves have the new foundation amps, are ported and have all of the environmental circuitry in my 7's, making them tunable to cancel ALL standing wave when placed out of phase in the rear corners. I was happy beyond my imagination.

But as a gift to myself I decided to truly finish my iifelong audio quest by adding another pair of REI's bridged. Not only did my output jump to 800 wpc, but the ir operating impedance dropped to 4 ohms, where they operate optimally, better grounding and a substantially lower noise floor. I knew it would be an improvement,, but neither Damon Voin Schweolert ( a close personal friend() and I were not prepared for the iimpact.. While they are still breaking in, we were totally gob smacked by the improvements. from the power increase, the massive increase in detaile, speed and massively improved sound stage and seriously reduced noise floor..

I will let them break in for several days and then write a more detailed report, but I can easily summarize by statingt the sound is way beyond anything I thought was possible.. I am totally thrilled!!!!

Thank you, Russ! You were among Angus and my first clients in the US, and we appreciate you!

When I visited with Damon during the initial installation of your Ultra 7s and Shockwave subs, we noticed a significant reduction in room-induced distortion emanating from your speakers. No doubt the 7s' better fit for your modest-sized room and the finely tuned correction subs made the difference. I believe this allowed you to hear deeper into your system and more easily experience the benefits of four vs. two Reis.

Undoubtedly, achieving this level of performance is not for the faint of heart. Enjoy the system, Russ. You have patiently waited for this day for some time.

Peace and health always!

A & G

It’s been 5 days since the REI’s have been bridged, and as expected the sound improves substantially daily. The power is so effortless and the soundstage is unlike I have ever heard because it is TOTALLY involving and covers my entire room and even around corners and in places sound waves shouldn’t be going. The detail is so amazing I have to regularly look to see if the musicians are hiding somewhere. I cannot hear any noise, but can hear so much detail that it is the most believable any of my many systems during the past 65 years

I know the system is not at full potential yet, but there is a clear and evolving trend of an amazing evolving soundstage, that does not sound like a system, with detail and subtly unlike I have heard certainly in my many systems, and very possibly anywhere! There is such a special synergy between the Ultra 7’s, Shockwaves and the entire Westminster Lab electronics I have. It is so much more than having 4 REI’s bridged with 800 WPC. The bass is the best I have heard, rivaling what I heard in the New St Mary’s Cathedral in SF when the organist was showing off for his mentor.tI can finally say I have achieved my bucket list system, and it is so much better than I ever imagined was possible.

Thank you so much Damon, Gary, Angus, Steve Williams, Jonas Miller and everyone along the way that helped me be able to appreciate what now resides in my house. Who knows where this is going to go, but I am beyond thrilled. What I do know is that I am a very lucky person to have this. If interested, please come by and have a listen, but you may leave wanting some of the parts of my system.

The audio higher power has blessed me!!!!
