Try the 3 record set also made during Sheffield's 1988 trip to Moscow. The Moscow Philharmonic conducted by both Lawrence Leighton Smith and Dimitri Gitaenko. Great recording of Shostakovich's "Festive Overture" and Copland's "Appalachin Spring Suite".

TLP-1000
I had this lp many years ago but sold it when I got out of vinyl.now that I am back into it I regret selling it.

Today Qobuz released Igor Levit's new recording of Shostakovich's 24 Preludes and Fugues plus Ronald Stevenson's 80 minute "Passacaglia on DSCH." I started with the Stevenson work. Levit's playing is phenomenal and conquers every pianistic hurdle tossed at him, but the overly distant mic placement robs his playing of some impact.

Haha, yeah, not my taste, either. However, since it's on my laptop, I can partially close the lid and not see it. I suppose if I owned the CD or LP version, I could put the cover away while listening! If the sound were better, I'd probably buy the CD version. (It's not bad, just a bit thin and distant-sounding.)

Thanks for verifying what was bandied around along with mirthful objections to home audio hifi having it's moment in the spotlight now that violin sections really are 40' long.

This is probably among the better remastered releases of Godunov on digital. After visiting some not so great AAD in recent weeks. The merits of analog on analog have been gaining steam.
