What turntables do you use? Pictures would be nice as well :-)

That’s terrible news, Pro-Ject bought the company if I read correctly. It won’t take long to release magnetically levitated plastic turntables.

That’s not true. New, larger diameter shaft fits old models, maybe not all but certainly fits the 2010 model. I know cause I installed one and it was recommended me by Eric Verdier. Otherwise how would I know.

Hi mtemur, yes, I told Heinz I got the information here that the new shaft would fit, and asked whether he would sell me one anyway. I am waiting for his reply! Thanks

Always owned a turntable from the age of 12. My first proper turntable was a Dual CS501. Later, this was changed to a Michell Gyrodec which was slowly modified over two decades of tweaks including power supplies and tonearm.
Two years ago I had the opportunity to audition the Bergman Modi over several weeks, but had to hand it back as they had a buyer. I loved the deck, so was a bit miffed. Standing there in the showroom there was its bigger brother sitting in pieces and I walked out that day with with the Bergmann Galder and Odin linear arm. I hated the arm for several reasons, so it was changed to a Thor arm. Two years later I still have the deck, I’ve not looked back. Plans are as with the Gyrodec it’s gonna last me another 20 years.

I've had this Sony TTS-8000 for a couple of weeks now. I'm very impressed; it's my first foray into DD (well, in the front room in any case!) and I'm very happy.

Fitting the SME arm did not make me happy though, what a palaver! Lifting it into place was a challenge too as it must be 25kg, the plinth being two part with the top half being some Sony composite that is extremely heavy. I have a Dynavector Te Kaitora Rua cartridge fitted currently.

The wife isn't impressed with the size of it after the relatively diminutive Orbe SE but it's really inoffensive; to the trained eye it's all business!

Moved to Colorado 5 years ago. Sold much of our gear prior to moving and slowly but surely configured a multi-purpose room to enjoy the music which is so central to lives. The final (haha) piece is now in place so we can enjoy the thousands of vinyl records that we brought with us.

Our previous analog system included a Basis Debut Gold standard vacuum turntable with a Graham Model 2.2 tonearm and Lyra cartridge. That TT/arm/cartridge combination remained essentially unchanged in our home for over 20 years.

But now it is a new dawn and we are back in the analog saddle with an Ars Machinae M1 turntable and it's companion 12.2" Lignum tonearm. Prior to auditioning the M1, I had purchased a Hana Umami Red cartridge. Serendipitously I learned that Ralf Wölfel, the mechanical engineer behind the design, used the Hana Red during the design process. This is our first experience using a mass loaded turntable and we couldn't be happier.

Other turntables we considered included the TechDAS Air Force V Premium with Graham tonearm, the AMG Viella Forte/12JT Turbo tonearm and a Kuzma Stabi R/4Point 9. An embarrassment of riches to have so many wonderful products to consider but we liked the M1's remarkably purposeful design and aesthetic. It also satisfies our prime directive that all components will achieve their sonic objectives without requiring a forklift during installation (all except speakers of course ;) ).

This latest iteration of the M1 includes the new isolation platform and Revopod footers in a triangular array.

The sound of the M1 is, as Ralf puts it, "uniquely calm." We couldn't agree more.

Good spot. Yes, it made sense to me to hear what Jonathan Carr's replay chain is capable of.

Hi, what’s the rest of the chain and the speakers?

Hi, what’s the rest of the chain and the speakers?
The 4-2L/P SEs are connected directly to ATC SCM 50A SLs via Supra Sword interconnects. I've used these active studio monitors since the late 90s. My intent is to hear what the band, producer and/or engineer were hearing when they said 'yeh, that's great, we're done!' (see https://atc.audio/client-list/ for a list of ATC customers). They won't be as revealing as 'proper' HiFi power amps and speakers, but I can certainly hear the difference between the Lyra Atlas and Atlas Lambda. Plus I don't need speaker cables <grin>

I went the same route with CTC for the deck and Ammonite Audio for the tonearms, here in the UK. Carl Ellis did the plinth, but I got the lacquer done down in London because I don't think there is anyone in the UK audio industry who does it anymore. I had a thread putting this together, and after 6 months it just gives endless enjoyable listening. LDA Quartz power supply direct from Nick Gorham, who makes them.

Hugo at Ammonite has sold me a Zavfino record stabiliser and a an Ortofon SPU 1S (not shown). The Ikeda 9TS and headshell were purchased in Tokyo in May. Sooner or later Hugo will convince me to get a Phasemation or more upmarket SPU a la @fordy964.

I've had the Reed 3P and and RCM phono a couple of years. I spoke to Richard at Whest and he's had a Two.2 phono returned from demo duty at Axpona, he upgraded it to a Discrete version and after a long chat about jazz gigs he sold it to me at a silly cheap price. It's utterly brilliant. He now sells direct to the USA.

Here's my Kuzma Stabi R, moved to this after using a Garrard for the last 25 years. This Kuzma used to belong to a fellow forum member and right now I am using it with a 4point 9" arm and a Schroder 11" CB. There are 2 Lyra Etna's, both non lambdas, the one on the Schroder is a Mono and the Kuzma has the stereo....I also have a 4point 11" and go back and forth between the two Kuzmas trying to find which one I like better, one needs to be sold....I tend to favor the 9", it's faster and most explosive and lighter on it's feet...the 11" has a more weightier sound but sounds a little slow and dark to me in direct comparison......decisions!!!.......IMG_2128.jpegIMG_2130.jpegIMG_2129.jpegIMG_2075.jpeg
