What turntables do you use? Pictures would be nice as well :-)

So here is the first turntable that I actually payed money for… a Sony PS-X7. Turns out it is still useful. Now I periodically utilize it, with its replay feature, this and a dollar record, and forty hours or so, you have a relaxed cantilever former, and you’re ready for a final alignment.

My fun this weekend, setting up my new Torqueo T-34 Exclusive Zebrano Compact.

An update from post #1 , 14 years ago

first time I have all 3 turntables and 4 tonearms hooked up and connected to the Phasemation EA-1200 phono with dual power supply and an Acoustical Systems phono input expander to change the EA-1200 from 3 to 4 inputs, but could be 6 inputs if I had the room and additional turntables.
:D

Technics SP10 Mk3 with Acoustand plinth - Thales Simplicity2 with Lyra Atlas Lambda SL + SME 3012R with Lyra Etna SL.
Pioneer Exclusive P3 with Phasemation PP-2000
Linn LP12 / Lingo / Naim ARO with Lyra Delos - soon to be Dynavector XV-1s

Wow. Love to hear that Pioneer and SP-10. How do you decide which table to play? Are they aimed at a certain genre?

thanks. Not aimed at a certain genre specifically, however different carts work a bit better on different arms.
The Pioneer carbon fibre straight arm did not go that well with the Lyra Atlas, but sounded great with the Etna. Sounds really good on the S arm with the Phasemation. It's sort of a slow process of trying different carts on the different arms to see which one brings out the best in each.

The SP10 mk3 with Thales/Atlas gets the most play as its the best cartridge I own. The Thales is such a bitch to set up - more in the tracking weight than anything, so the Atlas stays there.
The Pioneer P3 is the most flexible with changeable straight and S arms and head shells, so this gets lots of use with MM carts, lower priced MC's etc. But for the last 6 months I have settled on the the Phasemation as it sounds excellent.
The SME 3012R interestingly sounds best so far with the Etna - better than the Atlas - I did not try the Atlas with the Phasemation headshell thou - only the SME. The Etna sound suits the slighty warm/large bass lead sound of the SME, whereas the Thales luvs the speed and purity of the Atlas. Phasemation on the Pioneer is like a in between sound.

Got a picture of the input expander? Where can we get one?

Deitrich made one for me before he set up Acoustical Systems. not sure if you can get one anymore. works a treat and is pretty much transparent to the source - wired with his fav Ikeda silver wire and captive siver output cable with WBT AG plugs - you will see a ground lug on every input & the chassis.

To many threads, lol!

I don't think I posted my latest. An Artisan Fidelity Garrard 301, very nice!

how do you decide whether to play the idler or the brinkman. With shindo you probably have quite a romantic musical experience

Great question.

So right out front I would have to say that I don't find the Shindo romantic per se, to me the presentation is musical but articulate. Is it coloured, of course it is, everything else is too! My preference is to listen to a system that isn't overly analytical. I find many of today's systems are concerned with providing the Nth degree of detail, soundstage and frequency response coverage. I can't disagree with the intent but so many of them sound sterile and don't honour the music!

I am still getting familiar with the Artisan Fidelity/ GrooveMaster/ Ortofon presentation. So not a definitive answer but I like the broad brush soundstage, dynamics and focus on the vocal and instrumental presentation. There is a certain drive that is undeniable!

My BrinkMann / Hana presentation is different. This is an excellent combination so unless you are into the price is no object category you should be impressed with its presentation. There's always better I guess, it depends on how much we want to pay for it and how much better it makes our experience.

To your question. They don't sound the same. As I go through my collection I find that some sound better on the Bardo/ Hana. Many sound exceptionally good, especially my 70's originals but not only, on the Artisan Fidelity! A good reason for two cartridge/ tonearms setups or two different tables dedicated to what sounds best on them.

Yes to me that’s tubes. You want to find the right balance of detail and separation and accuracy but not overly precise. That’s sound vs music in my opinion

Audioquattr’s turntables

Audioquattr upgraded his Dohmann to helix one mk3 and put the Reed 5T on it with Dava soul, the Opus moved onto the Thiele pivoted LT, and the Dava reference and VDH stay on the AF3p, and the Red sparrow on Vyger Atlantis
