What's Spinning Tonight?

Whoa whoa whoa whoa whoa!

This is a vinyl-only thread? When did that happen? Or did I start posting on it without reading the initial post? The latter is very much possible.

I may need to go delete a bunch of posts here.

Darn, it was nice to have a place on the forum where people actually got excited about each other's posts.

Oh well.
Yea I just noticed that too! Well if that's the case it's nuts! We don't need more mechanisms of division!

Really for the most part this area is the only inclusive place on the forum, it's great because of the resulting diversity and lack of judgment that such a inclusive area brings.. So let's drop the vinyl tag and all share our music together.. All music all genres all formats

Further more, this is a area we can all use to grow our musical horizons. The best way of enabling that is to all post together... Plus it's a good way of getting to know each other, through music rather than our posting styles.

Or is all this just me?

Yes, Spaz, it is all just you. But also some very nicely-put points too.

Amen. And amen.

Some times I think I must be a different species;)

It's a horse life...

I am superior to all of you, after all my poo smells sweeeeet

No doubt. Let's talk vinyl. I want to start collecting. Where the best source?

Depends on what kinda music you're into.

I've bought from everywhere, but found boomkat.com, thevinylfactory.com, aquariusrecord.org, bandcamp.com to be great for below-the-radar stuff (indie/electonica/noise/ambient/metal/avant-garde), but have also bought from Amazon and Music Direct, et al. Should you have become somewhat unfamiliar to going out into the world and buying stuff from a physical store, I find independent record shops still a wonderful way of connecting with the floating detritus that is humanity, and actually having a face-to-face conversation over the counter. I know! It's crazy! Call me old fashioned, but if you can find a good one, it's worth its weight in vinyl.

Yeah there's a record store in town here. But it would be easier, and I imagine more selection sourcing online. Especially since I'll have it shipped to Bruce to make a quad DSD rip from it before it comes to me. So better to buy from some place in the U.S. But I want to be sure that the vinyl version sounds good. So I'm going to go through my digital collection and find the dud's, and see if there's good vinyl versions out there.

Boards of Canada ' geogaddi '
Vinyl...no that's a lie but...

Infected mushroom ' army of mushrooms '
Yea vinyl again lol

Infected mushrooms is my favourite. Extra tasty

No, all music types are accepted. Starting with the first page of the thread everyone has been posting what they listen to regardless of format. So please continue.

Woke up and spent a great morning with our home girl, Ms. Brandi Carlile, playing in our home turf of Benaroya Hall:

And the bits spinning on my hard disk where the CD rip was coming from was this: http://www.amazon.com/Live-Benaroya-Hall-Seattle-Symphony/dp/B004NCOQBK

Fidelity is average and orchestra sound mostly weak but the vocals and guitar are good. Pleasant enough to not get in the way of music enjoyment. Recommended.

It's a vinyl thread for people spinning vinyls. So I'm going to delete my 1,105 posts. ...Yeah right. :b

? Music is music...we all love music...many of us spin all kind of discs...big LPs (12") small 45s, 5" CD/SACDs, ...spinning.
Yes, the title mentions the words "Tonight" and "Vinyl" and "Spinning".
Now, should we restrict ourselves to only Vinyl Spinning music, and listening @ night only?

Best to ask our OP. But Myles would have to come back and tell us what's best. ...If only spinning vinyl @ night, or if any other mean of listening to music in daytime is permissible in his thread. Yeah, I think Myles is the one who can give us direction as he is the OP.

Methinks that @ this time in point, looking @ the very first page of this thread (I already looked @ it years ago), it's very obvious that members are also spinning CDs, SACDs and hi-res music files, and even @ daytime.

Should we be anal about it, or just simple music lovers that interact peacefully among all music spinning formats?
This is Myles' thread...it's his territory...he decide. He already had...years ago...right from the very first page...and I've never read any complaint or protest.

That's my opinion...and what can we do now? Because I think it's all good...the excitement remains...music is music and love is love.
We cannot unchain what was never chained.

<<<>>> And that first original post from Myles was edited by Tom, yesterday. Why? ...I just don't know...Myles post is from the year 2010.
If my 1,105 posts were all off topic, then I should be banned because it's most likely against the rules (TOS).
But I never intended to be against the rules; personally I simply wanted to share the music...and five years ago it never crossed my mind that I was crossing the frozen river in the middle of winter. ...Way of speech.
? I don't ever remember to see the word [Vinyl] included in this thread's title. Because if in 2010 it was, then you wouldn't have members posting in the very first page and second and third (all in 2010) because they listened to CDs and audio files.

Question to you 853guy: What would you do?

Question for Tom: Why did you edit Myle's original post from over five years ago...September 2010? ...That's almost 5.5 years ago.

I wish Myles well and hope his new site, AudioNirvana, works out. It looks like a nice place to discuss analog and LPs.

The thread title does not mention music. It seems that every format and time of day is eligible for sharing, as the mood strikes.

I had a bit too much to drink tonight, or this morning, or whenever it was. I put on my mint copy of Herb Alpert's Tijuana Brass, Whipped Cream & Other Delights (LP110 SP4110) with its price sticker reading $2.39. What great music. What great memories. What a great cover photograph. My head is still spinning.

The rose in her hand reminds me that Valentine's Day is approaching.

I really love this thread. And mostly, because I'm grateful there's at least one sub-forum in which members seem able to freely post a side of themselves - their taste in music - represented by "whatever's spinning (converted, streaming, etc) tonight (today, this morning, late-afternoon) without fear of reprisal.

And I think that's great. It's interesting to me to take a browse through what everyone's listening to, in the same way it is browsing through "What is new in my music library? (recent purchases I enjoy)", though I myself, am buying less than I once did for time-of-life reasons.

If it was up to me, and no-one's saying it is, perhaps "What's spinning tonight?" could simply be as I (perhaps falsely) assumed it was from the beginning: A sub-forum to say what you had recently listened to, irrespective of format or time of day. Amir seemed to think that was ok, but I'm not one for pushing an agenda. Happy to let Tom, Amir, etc decide how best this particular thread be stewarded.

Thhe thread title does not mention music. It seems that every format and time of day is eligible for sharing, as the mood strikes.

It's in the General Music Discussion Forum - Music Forum - Our Favorite Technology and Audio Forums section.

24 hours a day, 7 days a week, 365 days a year the music never stops playing. We might be sleeping but many are still listening to the music somewhere else...it goes around and around non-stop spinning across the globe.

Music is for everyone, even the ones without a home and with just a pair of headphones...living on the streets and moving from one alley to another.

Music unites us all, it does not divide us. ...That'll be the day!

? I'm listening to the silence right now. I do that sometimes...it's good to hear the breeze, the waves, the wind, the bird's flapping wings, the rain falling, the horses, a dog @ distance, ...all nature wildlife sounds.

The baby is crying, the phone is ringing, the ambulance's siren across the lake, time soon for a serenade...spinning on a turntable...with a tonearm or a laser lens. ...Et cetera.

Was it the word [Vinyl] of the title's thread that made you post what you posted this morning? http://www.whatsbestforum.com/showt...-Tonight-Vinyl&p=378174&viewfull=1#post378174
...Or what is the blue lettering of the first post (edited last night): http://www.whatsbestforum.com/showt...ng-Tonight-Vinyl&p=17517&viewfull=1#post17517

This thread never had any discussion about what type of music spinning was appropriate and not...never that I can recall.
I too love this thread...it's a music sanctuary...a place to discover...explore...converse...a place to relax...to live in peace.

So it appears the thread is fine, but some doofus crapped on the thread title. Ignore the doodoo and post as usual.

Yeah, the "Vinyl" thing threw me a bit and all of a sudden I couldn't remember whether it was ever there or not. I didn't ever remember it being that way, even though lots of posts show sleeve jackets in front of a turntable, I assumed it was broader than that, just like the "tonight" was. I also assumed Tom posted in the first post as a way of saying "thank you" to Miles for starting it. But again, these are all assumptions on my part.
