The Musical Heritage Society re-released a lot of very nice recordings in the 1980s. I had a subscription. This surfaced today. It was licensed from Decca and manufactured in the US. 1985 copyright.
1930s blues courtesy of Sleepy John Estes on the incomparable Blues Collection. Timeless. Given recent events and forthcoming ones, the blues seems more relevant than ever before.
This is one one of my sons found at a used record store. The guiro (played by Martinez on Succotash) really threw me. At first I thought the track had been worn out due to the guiro’s scraping sound, but I learned to appreciate it. The original session was at Van Gelder’s in 1963.
Near the end of side 1 there was a locked groove that would not go away with cleaning.
Tonight I ran the record on the Super Auto cleaning cycle of the Double Matrix Professional Sonic, but it’s still there. On the bright side, the TT2 will slide through it with a gentle partial up cue. I am still loving the TT2.
This is another from the Musical Heritage Society … originally recorded by Pablo in 1973, this 1988 rerelease was on Teldec vinyl and was made with their Direct Metal Masteering technology. It’s quite a nice recording.

Yea Spotify. Even worse using a Eero mesh router. Still trying to get Qubuz working. Even so, my digital is darn good. This room is good.View attachment 140434
Don’t totally despite Spotify, as some sounds better there than both Tidal and Qobuz, and vice versa… I have made this comparison many times, and sometimes the sound sucks from all these services, and sometimes they don’t. I think this depends on many factors, and I can’t say why… just the way it is.
It looks good, and I’m glad to see you are enjoying the sound so far… !
