What's Spinning Tonight?

I'd forgotten how much I liked Petrouchka, but The Rite of Spring is one of my favourite pieces, and why I got this. Good stuff. It could start a riot...

Lovely. The picture on the back of her looking at Daniel barenboim is a little suggestive of the begining of a strip.
I checked the amazon folks' review of this recording. Fouteeen people reviewed this and they all gave it a maximum 5 stars.

Amazon. There is a sale on the Sheffield site, but most of what I got was much cheaper on Amazon (plus I got free shipping) and I was too lazy to split the order. A friend sent me a note and reminded me even the CDs are getting scarce; a lot of the ones I had thought of getting were out of stock on the Sheffield site. I had some gift certificates and finally decided to put them to good use. I was pondering putting them toward a new AVR, but decided more music made more sense (to me anyway).

I have a few original LPs but have not set up my turntable in ages. I have found the Sheffield CDs (and a few others) are useful for showing what CDs can sound like compared to some (most?) of the ones out there. I have been really dissappointed in some CDs of stuff I had on vinyl; in one case I think I have five different versions of the CD before finding a mix thought really does it justice. I think much of the bad CD sound is really bad remastering...

I also finally broke down and got the Return to Forever BD to watch/hear. Now if I can just get a weekend off and shoo everyone out of the media room for a while!

I got a copy of the Sheffield 20-bit remastered Leinsdorf Romeo and Juliet and it's wonderful. Not quite like the original D2D LP I had, but still excellent. You're in for a treat with the Return to Forever Blu-ray, I guarantee you!

Thanks! I am working towards the classicals; so far mostly big-band (Harry James -- what do you expect from a lead trumpet player? ;) ) and some standards like the Amanda albums, drum record (can't believe I didn't already have that CD!) plus a few others.

We have a few music/concert DVDs but I realized I've never played them on the big system! Gotta' work on that, and RTF seems like a good start... :)

Rickie Lee Jones: Live at Red Rocks

A great performance by Rickie Lee Jones at the Red Rocks Amphitheater in Colorado. RLJ is in great voice, and she was obviously enjoying herself on the night of the recording (2001). Her energy comes across in the CD. Sound is a bit light in the bass, but punchy and engaging. I thoroughly enjoyed it.
