Tonight I'm spinning local stuff:
Herbert Grönemeyer is one of the most famous artists over here. And for years I just couldn't stand his 2002 Album "
Mensch" ("Human Being"). According to the
BVMI list this is the best ever selling album in Germany. The downside of that: in the early 2000's you just couldn't escape it on the radio. It was just too much.
But recently, after enough time has passed, I re-discovered this album and must admit that it is actually quite a work of art.
Herbert Grönemeyer started to work on this album to finally come to terms with the loss of both his wife and his brother who passed away from cancer in a matter of just a few days four years earlier. Most of the lyrics are about loss and how to deal with it, actually quite well described in the respective
Wikipedia article.
Check out "Mensch", "Der Weg", "Unbewohnt", "Zum Meer".
