I like to get recommedations for good sounding records which are still available. For example:

Masterpieces.JPG
Masterpieces by Ellington
Duke Ellington and his Orchestra
Columbia Masterworks ML 4418, 1951
Analogue Productions, 2014
It was recorded 1950 but it sounds like it was done yesterday. Mono? Who cares?

Gershwin.JPG
George Gershwin
Rhapsody in Blue
Catfish Row
Good Morning Sistuh!
Concerto in F
Rialto Ripples
Gewandhausorchester conducted by Riccardo Chailly
Stefano Bollani, Klavier
foné 050, 2 LP, 2012

Since Duke Ellington has been mentioned, I will vote for Ellington Uptown from 1955 (I think) which features one of the Duke's great bands, with Louis Bellson on drums and Paul Gansalves on tenor sax. The highlights for me are "Skin Deep" with Bellson playing a memorable drum solo with two bass drums, "Perdido" with full solos from the band, and a definitive "Take the A-Train" with a bop vocal by Betty Roche and a sensational tenor solo by Gansalves. I owned an original LP but lost it somewhere and now make do with a CD. However the LP is once again available and on my list.

ROCK

Pink Floyd - Dark Side Of The Moon (SACD) - EMI (Capitol Records)
Pink Floyd - The Wall (Gold Cd) Mobile Fidelity Sound Labs (Capitol Records)
Pink Floyd - Whish You Where Here - (Gold CD) DCC Mastersound (Captil Records)

Having owned (2) of these particular CDs and heard the other, I can safely say that they are trumped by the following:

Pink Floyd - Dark Side Of The Moon (CD) - Japan CP35-3017 (EMI/Harvest non TO version)
Pink Floyd - The Wall - (CD) CDP 7 46036 8 (Harvest Black Face)
Pink Floyd - Wish You Where Here - (CD) Japan 35-DP4 (CBS/Sony 2 track version)

IMO the MOFI The Wall is smiley face eq'd and the Mastersound WYWH is a bit bright.

It will cost you a bit of coin to get them though ;)

FSOL-
Life Forms (Double CD of unique electronica)

Future Sound of London "Life Forms"; I have never heard the CD but the original vinyl is really good. :D

May I have a specific reference to this work please? I get a ton of hits and different variations when searching. Thanks in advance :).

Hi...sorry...did not see your post til just now. Here it is. enjoy. imho, exceptional technique, very very cerebral and yet light and rhythmic in his playing which i think suits these particular works.

Scarlatti - Pletnev.jpg

BTW, Amirm,

If you are at all curious to hear an exceptional recording quality, close-miked album by Dave Brubeck, (where the piano is up close and therefore very powerful, deep with strong, solid piano notes, you may wish to check this one out...

No worries. Thanks for getting back to me. I had gone ahead and bought this one: http://www.amazon.com/Scarlatti-Key...=1443222992&sr=1-1&keywords=pletnev+scarlatti

I am hoping it is the same thing (this one is import and hence different cover). Searching, I only found one review with your cover art. And tons of other variations. But sadly no downloads.

The CD version on amazon is two discs and this one is not. Is it mono and stereo versions in CD? I prefer download as the price is the same.

Talking Scarlatti Piano Sonatas here is a download Flac 24/44,1 of Domenico selected works by a young yet talented pianist Yevgeny Sudbin with 10/10 critics by Classic Today which I bought a few month ago with eclassical.com

http://www.eclassical.com/labels/bis/scarlatti-piano-sonatas.html

Is this what we are talking about?

If so, it sounds delightful to this classical newbie :). Watching him in action adds a lot to one's enjoyment too.

Yes, it's him, with video his technique is even more impressive.
Critics rank him on the same level as Horowitz and Pletnev.

I like this very much, and I greatly admire his relaxed and controlled technique. Bit too much pedal here for my taste, but as a sometime harpsichord player, I would say that...
