Who is this guy, and how does he have 80,000 subscribers? (Yes, I'm envious.)

He seems to be feeding disinformation to people eager to receive confirmation of their existing bias.

To quote P.T. Barnum - There's a sucker born every minute..... Or 80,000 in this case....

Don't posts like these just give the video more views, thus further incentivizing the creator to make content like this? I thought this forum was well past the pseudo-objectivist "X digital item all sounds the same because measurements!" squabbles.

You can buy subscribers. I get emails from India every other week offering me to buy subscribers from them in 10,000 size increments. I've never done it as I don't monetize the channel so I don't care. But I know of several hifi audio reviewers who have.

People were talking at the Dallas show about who was buying the subscribers.

I think Jay Iagi did a video also saying mostly all DAC's sound the same?

Even as someone who appreciates digital but is not a big enthusiast I am 100% comfortable that DACs sound different. And if I can hear those DAC differences then I have to assume almost every audiophile can hear those DAC differences.

I just don't understand what this guy is doing -- or why?

My personal observation is that we've had what I call a "racing to the bottom" from content creators in the last 2 years.

What is that? It's when they talk about high end gear (as many of them started out) and then see the dollar signs of joining the lower end sheeple so their content moves towards the false yet widely accepted held beliefs about DAC's, cables, "anything above $XXX isn't better than the more expensive", and the like.

It's simple: when you parrot the false-narrative accepted by the many you get more clicks and views (if that is your goal). You also get a lot less nasty hate messages (there are some really sick people out there).

I won't mention names publicly, but nearly all the people who started off in the high-end realm now parrot the headlines of "all DAC's should the same" or "this $199 DAC Kills my $20K DAC" stuff. There are only a small handful who have stayed true to high end or boutique high end.

Look how many of them all get the exact same item to review at the same time. That is not coincidence.

I'm not judging nor am I saying it's right or wrong. Merely an observation. For me personally I refuse to cover the mass market stuff as it bores me to tears.

Again - I'm not judging nor claiming there is a right or wrong to what they do.

Flat Earther's have people around the globe (as advertised).

Please read that again and comprehend what they just said. Some people's kid's should simply not be in this hobby.

The Flat Earthers got it wrong. There is no globe.

If DAC's don't sound different? Okay.

My take is that you have never heard any differentiation between a good/decent/stellar one. The world is your oyster. Do what makes you happy.

I personally like R2R. Others will disagree vehemently. It is what it is......

my short answer is: Who cares? My online psychology degree ("earned," I will admit, using AI to answer all questions) provides me with this observation: High prices put a lot of gear out of reach for many, many folks. Some of them will want to hear that price doesn't matter and thus you can sleep well tonight knowing whatever you have is just as good. 80,000 such people does not seem a stretch.

I also like R2R. My current DAC (Mola Mola Tambaqui) is not R2R, but the tonality is similar.

Hi Ron, pure CLICKBAIT... I know him some time now...

He makes online sound-engineeing courses, therefore of course he looks for YT vid's to get more attention. Therefore just smiling and enjoy the difference of DACs.

I also gave it up, because soooo many hifi people would say the same and agree to him. It is exactly like with streaming and proper ethernet switches...especially from anaologue fanboys/girls investing €30k in Vinyl and using €2k streamer-dac and complaining how bad streaming is..

Why does the fellow on the channel always appear as if he's constipated? Come to think of it, that could be affecting his hearing to the point that he cannot distinguish between the French Horn and someone blowing through a hair comb, and a sheet of paper.

I know I'm mostly preaching to the choir here, but doesn't the simple switching of available filters on most DACs (via front panel controls) with resulting immediately audible impacts prove that "not all DACs sound the same?"

Yes, or upgrading the power supply, fuse or cables. But "all DACs sound the same" types also don't believe in power upgrades.

I have four different DACs in my system. Pioneer Elite DV58i, Marantz AV10, Oppo 105 and Playback Designs MPT-8/MPD-8. I only use the Pioneer and Playback Designs for two channel music. The Pioneer is really good. The Playback Designs is great and it is easy to hear the difference. The Pioneer was $500 when new, the PD combo is $50K.

However, some DACs do sound the same as i found out when I auditioned about 20 of them back in 2018.

I commented to ruffle his feathers and absolutely discredit his opinion and call him out for spreading disinformation.

That doesn't sound like Jay at all.
