Move over Jennifer Warnes, step aside Diana Krall, we have a new winner. If I hear this one more time I'm going to "______" fill in the blank.

And that's a pity, because before it became an audio show staple, I loved the album. Still, I can enjoy it because I've only played it once in a show.

Its got to be at least 2 to 1 over any other song I hear at shows. It, SRV "Tin Pan Alley", and DBQ "Take Five" have taken the place of the non stop female vocals at shows. My wife and I laugh when walking down the halls and pretty much every room is playing one of those three songs.

I am sure I will offend someone...

There was a time when there were not many recordings that were popular and well recorded.
try to listen to lots of music but I have my favorites. For the exhibitors there is a certain value to repeating the same selections. The ability different systems is one advantage. They should be aware of the need to allow patrons to "cleanse their palate" periodically. The better exhibitors do.both

I for one was happy when Jazz at the Pawnshop was retired.

One of the hazards of audio shows.

One imagines the typical audiophile sitting in front of a quarter million dollar installation with a viagra drip and a drool bucket listening to kitsch or a few female vocalists, and never a stitch of imaginative music.

Peter,

I tend to agree but it seems like a double edge sword in some cases.

Part of judging a systems performance may involve the playing of music one is familiar with. It becomes easier to judge what you are hearing with familiar music. On the other hand, seasoned show goers tend not to want to hear the same music (which is odd given that when we are home reviewing or tweaking, we tend to play familiar music to judge system performance). I guess I'm somewhat neutral on the audio show music choices.

One thing I try to do when attending shows is to bring a selection of music that is incredibly well recorded and appealing to a broad audience. Most times this works out. The times I know it is working is when I typically get asked to see the name of the LP and the information. This process show music selection tends to be time consuming but I feel it is worth the effort because it sometimes appears to be a "win-win" for everyone. The potential customers don't evacuate the room, the people running the room don't want to pull the music, and (most importantly) I get to evaluate what I'm hearing against very familiar music.

Of course, like most things, this doesn't always work.

Duende by Bozzio/Levins/Stevens has become that way. Shame as 5-6 years ago it sounded so fresh at shows.

Already working on my play list for Newport-- it won't be audiophile yawners, that's for sure.

When I make tapes for shows, it's always Metallica, Nirvana, Led Zeppelin, Doors, Van Morrison and anything else 'non' audiophile!

I wanna hear a good Polka album!:)

How about...

Oh yeah! And a one and a two...:D

Don't forget the bubble machine!

Thom Mackris has yet to forgive me for playing a Scissor Sisters LP in his room :D

i love Hugh masakela's stimela aka "coal Train" Nils Lofgren is a great singer/songwriter and it’s a shame "Keith don’t go" is on everyone’s sh!t list. ill be honest, i have gag reflex when i hear a lot of 70s-'90s rock especially at shows - and i grew up on this music! it might be classic but its not timeless. Along with mullets, Metalica has an expiration date: 1995. id succumb to "Keith don’t go" on repeat for 24-hrs before putting on "enter sandman" once... but that’s my opinion.

If i made my living selling/showing off audio gear at shows i wouldn’t play rock music (LZ, AC/DC or whatever). strictly audiophile stuff (fluff?) that i recorded really well. I can tell you what is missing is large scale symphonic music, i think most exhibitors are afraid to.

Some of the best 'audiophile' music I have are Peter McGrath's and Dave Wilson's master tapes....

Rob,
what's the best recording of Holst's The Planets? I'm trying to find a good one for the New York show. I love Saturn, and I don't recall anyone ever playing that in an audio show.

I think you are just burned out on shows period. I'm sure if I attended as many as you have I would feel the same way. I only go maybe once a year if that.

Maybe I need to get out more but I heard this recording for the first time at the last RMAF. I've been listening to it lately and have really been enjoying it.
