We dont know why he uses the Davinci. But I dont think adjusting the vta on the fly is his primary reason. The sound, the ease of switching head shell/cart easily, etc. He has that magic software so to get that 92 degree need no on-the-fly. ;)

He mentioned it in a post on audionirvana.

Anyway don't try on the fly VTA with zyx yourself with the luck you have had with that cart

you should try on the fly VTA with zyx on.

Richard mak said zyx is very sensitive to VTA, which is why he has it on Da Vinci Vertu

Hmmmm. If the ZYX were very sensitive to VTA adjustment then I don’t think David would advocate no need to adjust the VTA after set-up on a 3012R carrying the ZYX.

I am quoting what Mak said

Ron, after these various posts, what is the answer to your question about whether or not these binding posts accept banana plug connections? I thought there is some confusion about the size of the plug. It looks like that is a hole in the end of the binding post, but has that been confirmed? Perhaps I missed it.
The Gryphon binding post can be used with Bananaplugs , Spades and bare wire.
Largest surface area is provided by bare wire and crimped spades. Gryphon only offer spades.

Dear Ron,
ZYX cartridges are extremely sensitive to VTA, they must be set up very accurately for correct results but there's no need to readjust if initial setup is correct. As I mentioned many times I don't subscribe to continuous changing VTA model.

Dietrich of Acoustical Systems conscientiously designed the Axiom to be the contemporary evolution of the Fidelity Research tonearms, which many Koetsu aficionados consider to be the best tonearm for a Koetsu.

I wonder how he defines evolution because sonically there's no similarity between FR64s/66s and Axiom tonearms.

Never compared, but isn't axiom more damped as compared to the other two? Surely there most be some sonic difference due to the metal in FR?

I tend to agree.I haven't changed the VTA on my ZYX Premium since the day it was set up

They have very different sonic characteristics which is fine what I was wondering about was the evolution comment.

Should I keep the walls natural walnut or should I stain all of the walls grey (like you see in the left corner)?

The color is a uniform grey stain, but applied carefully to allow the underlying woodgrain pattern to show through clearly.

Ron,
This seems like a very personal decision. Why ask anyone? One thing for possible consideration- if you keep them natural, you can always stain later. If you stain now, I don't think there is any "going back". But hey, it's great to see it looking so much more real now!!

Natural, surely.

Otherwise the AS 2000 will not feel at home ... :)

I had a nice chat with Richard a couple of weeks ago at a gathering. I would have asked him had I known. He's very approachable you could email him for clarification. We talked for some time on phono stages. My dealer now has the Latest ZYX Optimum 1ohm- very nice on a Clearaudio Master Innovation and 14" Kuzma- He's got quite the collection now.

I would keep it natural Ron... the walnut is beautiful. Of course, your taste and decor will reign supreme.
